Lightning Electric Motorcycles

I dunno.
This could be one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QP_Nm4MCHcA
and on PooTube, too. I have not watched it yet.

I think Alan Cathcart might be a pretty major dude.

This is not a formal review by a journalist, this is a short video shot on a Nokia from 1995, and posted on Lightning's own channel. It doesn't even seem like this is a production bike - probably the same blue one from the open house.

I think HadesOmega has a valid point. If they're delivering these bikes, then this must be the best-kept secret in the history of production motorcycle launches.

I’m pretty sure they have delivered at least two. I will get some definitive answers soon.

Small manufacturer. Limited production, not mass.

They have delivered two carbon strikes?

The photo they posted themselves on their FB page shows a non-carbon Strike, and the owner said something along the lines of it having only level 2 charging and only a 10kw battery that they will change later, so I guess it's a prototype.

I don't have a dog in this particular fight but this thread delivers.

Nonsenical claims? Foolish? Really?

Please, link me to an article by a "moto journalist" that rode a production carbon Strike. Go ahead. We're waiting.

You don't need to wait: the claim wasn't Strikes in particular, and I already linked to two legit articles by motojournalists that have ridden Lightnings.

Ah ok, I know Lightning has made some bikes in low quantities. Pretty obvious with the racing they've done.

I thought we were discussing the Lightning Strike Carbon edition which they have supposedly been shipping regularly since September.

I'm going to make a wild guess that $13,000 is not enough money for a low volume electric motorcycle and Lightening can't sell at that price without going bankrupt.

Lightning does alot more than sell LS218 and Strike motorcycles. They have been around for a bunch of years. A bunch.

I am aware that Lightening has been around. I would see then frequently at EV events. Other than some racing, I would like to hear what else they do.

What matters to customers is delivery- following through with was promised. At least communicate what is going on.

They have a fleet of smaller E bikes that sell in Asia.
That likely is funding their effort here to get a great American E bike online and working towards a real solid market.

Some other stuff in the works too, but I don't think I should be talking about that stuff.

I believe they may be delivering a bike to someone in New Zealand.. oddly enough. A YouTuber who I follow there mentioned putting a deposit down on one awhile back. He sold one of his Zero's recently to make room for a new electric bike. When I asked which one he said something along the lines of '3 weeks until I get to ride the lightning.'

So that would be cool if they deliver one.

I read an article where Lightning said they delivered 17 Strikes and are building a Grom sized bike called the Spark.

These 17 owners must be in some sort of silence pact, since it seems to be the best kept secret in motorcycling.

I have ridden the Spark. It is pretty cool. It has like 30 hp.

I picked up a used 7.2 FXS yesterday! Wow is this bike fun. So light and holy.. the torque.

Even in this cold I keep wanting to take it out and screw around.

Fuck around and try and stop hard, like really hard. Understand how terrible the abs is and decide if you wanna ride with the abs on. It's a fun little bike but I thought the ABS was awful.

The newest Zero model, the SR/F is said to have improved "cornering ABS". I have not tried it or read up on it, so I am wondering how it really is.

On My Zero SR , the first moto that I have had with ABS, when I feel the front ABS work, its usually over a bump and then the reduced braking after the bump will send me really wide in the turn coming up. No drama, but no fun. I'm thinking that the bike would handle better without front ABS set the threshold higher. I like bumpy roads.

Back to Lightning - still no good news from the elusive owners or the company.
