Lightning Electric Motorcycles

Cornering ABS is amazing, and nothing like the very basic first-gen ABS you describe.

I had cornering ABS on my BMW S1000XR and the level of control it give you in a turn can be downright scary.

The rear ABS on the Zero SR takes a nap in between its pulses. I have not felt the front ABS but plan on upgrading the master cylinder.

How are you liking the loss of traction on the FXS? Can you play around with backing it in? I'm afraid I'd have to keep it in eco mode or ride 100% grip, like I do with the SR.

I actually haven't noticed loss of traction except cornering, with cold tires, over a manhole cover while test riding. But it grabbed almost as quick as it gave. So no worries there.

I've only been able to ride it a few times, so not enough to give a report. I've setup my custom mode to be 100% regen, 100% speed and that has been a blast. The regen honestly seems lacking. At 100% I barely notice it. I'd love for it to kick it so I can brake like an electric car (AKA not really using the brakes)

Backing it in? Not sure what you mean - does it have a reverse? haha

Backing it in... I did the ol’ search function but nada.
Trail braking oversteer/ rotation, methinks.

Backing it on on the FXS without turning off the ABS and using rear brake was.. difficult. The regen wasn't really strong enough to break traction unless you were basically doing a near stoppie, so not the easiest method to back in and have control.
That being said you could technically do it but I didn't think it was really beneficial in any way. That being said I'm not the most talented when it come to backing it in but it was a far cry some the 2 down bang bang dump of my other supermotos.

I just checked out the Lightning Face Book group - No good news there :laughing

The news is good, perhaps not on FraudBook.
I went to their shop Tuesday. I spoke to Rich.

They don’t have staff for the social media thing, and perhaps the folks who buy these kinds of motorcycles don’t have an interest in sharing, er showing off, or making public, their expensive toys.

That seems to annoy some, to the point of speculating (er, making shit up) and posting it on YouTuber.

Silly humans.

Anyhow, Lightning is producing the LS218 and Strike in small volume. No Spark yet.

Much as I try not to give Suckerberg traffic, I suppose I should go to FalseBook and peek.

Lightning is a non-entity as far as I'm concerned. Good luck to them and their customers and believers, but I'm done checking this thread. /Rant.

Yeah, specialty motos are not for everyone. Especially high performance limited production and expensive ones. The future might require a network of suppliers and fabrications. Not for the faint of heart, or wallet..

Honda fills an alternate niche.

Diversity rocks. At least for motos..

NewZeroland just posted a video on the Strike riding around with the owner.

Good video.

Still no sign of a production bike, unfortunately.

But it's nice to see it in action. Hope they get production and rider aids figured out soon.

I hope the Strike Carbon with CCS comes out before Damon, or that will eat their lunch. I think those looking for a cheap, lightweight, ~10 kWh commuter will choose Zero and their established warranty network over the base Strike.

Hmm, the ending is not a good sign.

None of that seemed like a good sign. I even thought for a hot second about buying one of those....I’d be furious if I got one and couldn’t do triple digits.

FWIW, a friend of mine just took delivery of his strike. It's white. Lots of carbon. Fancy parts. It has clipon bars, so I couldn't ride it, but the group of friends all had positive shit to say.

Who is that guy? Does he have any cred? Who would try to go 150 on regular roads?

Folks can say anything on the internet.
