Mat Mladin accused of child sex crimes in Australia

I have not had any real encounters with the justice system beyond being empaneled on two juries (one criminal, one civil).

But I saw an ad for a criminal attorney (vs the litany of injury lawyers), and he had this quote (which I paraphrase).

"While you're innocent until proven guilty, the system is designed to convict you."

I found that pretty profound. Perhaps others can speak to the veracity of it.

Yeah, the state that indicts you basically has unlimited resources, and if you're lucky, you have some very limited ones. If you're not lucky, you get to cop a plea if you're lucky. Great system.

Let's just hang him now. No need for a trial.

:laughing

WTF are you even talking about? I made no comment about his guilt or innocence. I only interpreted the language from the article. As someone who has investigated a sex crime or two in 13 years of law enforcement, I think I can speak on the subject competently.

It’s not that serious....

Hang him by his balls IF he is proven guilty.

Side story:

In the words on Sheldon "bitches be crazy"

At my current company a flight attendant told the company, not the police, that the captain raped her in the hotel on an overnight. Married, kids, got pulled off the line when the company and union did an investigation.

They were able to get the hotel video footage and after reviewing everything, including the rest of the crews actions that night, the captain never once left his room. They got to the hotel, he went in his room, came out the next morning for the van to the airport. She, however, was shown on video to not only leave her room, but the hotel, for most of the night before returning to get ready for the day.

That captain was obviously cleared and she got fired, but not after it severely strained his career, marriage, and reputation. All that happened to her, needed a new job.

Why didn't the captain sue her and why didn't she get in trouble for lying?

I think that is is BS!!!! I say this because I'm a HUUUUUGE Fan of him. I REALLY hope that this is BS!!!!!!

Was told the story by one of the committee members involved. I don't know if he did or didn't after the fact, or if not, why not. The only ones she lied to were the company/union, not the police. Don't know if there's a lot they can do legally, other than sue.

If you are involved in law enforcement, you have expertise in investigation. I didn't know that extended to trial law. You hinted that he's probably guilty. Is that the attitude you take to investigations? The US jail system is full of millions of guilty men and tens of thousands of innocent ones.

Who's to say, it's just a post on the internet.

So you're not seeing the irony yet? It's shrugged off as nothing when the words are X, but it's something super huge when the words are Y..?

Not yet. I don't iron until next week. I just did the laundry, but the shirts are just in a pile.

*yawn* You’re being ridiculous.

I said that a “lengthy investigation” probably implies more than just taking two statements from involved parties. You can interpret that how you see fit. Clearly no one else was assuming I was ready to convict, so I’m not sure why you are digging your heels in on this.

A “lengthy investigation” can include SART exams, pretext phone calls, DNA analysis, search warrants, and several other investigative techniques.

Also, being a police officer gives me a lot of experience in criminal trials. As a lead investigator, police officers are often present throughout the entire trial, sitting right next to the prosecutor. This includes participating in jury selection, being present for opening statements, case presentation, evidence introduction, witness direct/cross/redirect examination, closing statements, and verdict delivery.

That’s just a bit, but I’m not the one on trial here.... :rolleyes

Here's exactly what you said:

I don’t know anything about policing in Australia, but I know a bit about policing in the USofA and the article does say “After a lengthy investigation...”

To me, that implies more than just “he said, she said” bullshit.

It's pretty clear. So maybe you are the one that's on trial.

What does quoting two of my posts saying the same thing prove in your mind?

Dude, you know what you said and I know what you said. You can back and fill all you want, but you can't change what you said.
