Midlife crisis style...new car time

turbodogs already said he doesn't want an impractical car the "mid-life crisis" car is a misnomer. that's not what he's looking for.

he listed his criteria in post 62 and 63.
fun, sporty, practical, low maintenance, good mileage, safe. under $25k.

If you can't get a Vette, a less expensive two seat sports car can be had in an early model 370z or late model 350z. For added poser points the Nismo versions of each are pretty sweet. You are not going to take a Coyote equipped Mustang in a straight, but you sure could get it in the handling department.

Gas mileage is not bad and they are pretty damn reliable. The weak point in the 350 has been the clutch, but it's relatively cheap/easy to replace.

Agree with all of it except for the Mini not being cool. To me new American cars are what's 'uncool'

That new Paceman is kinda cool.

New American is uncool? Dafuq?! This is as cool as cars get short of dropping a quarter mil on an exotic...

Serious...and why the heck did they call the new engine the LT1 again?

:thumbdown

Back in 1970, the LT-1 with solid lifters and 11:1 compression was pretty much the baddest ass small block Chevy ever.

GM may be pretty much run by bean counters, but there are still people there with some say so that remember the heritage. That's why "ZR1" returned to the Corvette or "ZL1" to the Camaro.

How close to P-hill are you? I've got our 2008 43K mile 335i coupe on the market for wholesale (I'd take $23K for it). Really nice car, new water pump at 41K miles (Bill did it...hey, it's a BMW!) and all options except cold weather. Nothing drives better and they're well executed cars you can drive daily if you want. Not quite the exotic factor. If you want a convertible, our 2007 Mercedes CLK350 with 44K miles is for sale as well...I'd take 20K for her and she's in great shape as well.

I like AMG and M stuff, but no one knows what they hell the are on the normal road and there's not a car that depreciates faster than an AMG. You'd be better served looking at a newer Camaro SS (yeah, I know...pretty common, but good for the money), or Rob's choice on the new Mustang 5.0 (yeah, common too), or my favorite, a C6 Z51 (Rob's pick as well)...the quintessential midlife crisis car for good reason; they're THAT good. Those that call them "cheesy" have no idea just how fast and how good they really are...for the track, for dinner dates and for weekend getaways (roof comes off). That's where I'd put my money for $25K. Also, I can get this stuff at wholesale cost, if that helps you...if not, I can at least check the prices. Something else to think about: 2000 or so Dodge Viper RT/10. They don't get beat on too hard, are a nice quasi exotic and pretty fun to cruise around in...but not the most luxurious cars around. Still, guaranteed to get some looks...

Say no to higher mile stuff and boy racer (WRX, evo, etc) stuff, IMO.

Salvage. Look-the-fuck-out!

absolutely. I would take one WAY before one of the cars you initially listed especially when they are around the same price. also, since they have a toyota drivetrain they are actually reliable for a quasi exotic.

Elise engines ARE the weak point of the car, which is bizarre, really. The pop more than the chicks on Teen mom 2. Go figure.

It it crazy that I would rather have a C5 vette than a C6?

Not to mention that Elises ride like dick, and have hella road noise. Track car only.

Fixed.

Almost uncomfortable and impractical as an Ariel Atom. Can't think of anywhere but a track that I'd want to go on any day of the week that'd be worth me shoehorning myself in an Elise/Exige.
