MikeV's ZB50 Thread

that sucks.
there's a reason why they have the 49cc check box.
no emissions label needed as they're 49cc. you kind of have to emphasize the size part as i don't think they deal with this sort of thing that often.

The registration form doesn't say that there's no label required. It says "Emission Label Indicates:" which to me means there's still supposed to be something present indicating that the engine is under 50cc's. You can't expect every DMV inspector to know what a Honda Monkey is.

This is the only label on a ZB50 that has the word "emissions" on it. It goes on the swingarm.

i don't expect them to know what the make and model is but i do expect them to know the legalities.

from my own experience, when i mentioned that it was a 49cc motorcycle the dmv employee went to look for the displacement.

on the zb50 the cylinder has 49cm2 stamped on it.

The DMV office never hassled me. This all came several weeks later, probably after it went to Sacramento.

I had to explain to the DMV verification guy 5 times at least what my Ducati was. He'd never seen one so he assumed I built it out of a parts bin. :|

They're just underpaid state employees who don't give shit.

OK, I have a fax from American Honda -- they're also mailing me the hard copy -- stating the Year, Model, and VIN of my bike, and that at the time of manufacture it complied with all applicable DOT and EPA emission requirements.

I hope that's enough.

I'm gonna call the CHP guy first and see if that satisfies the requirements in lieu of the missing emissions label.

OK, talked to CHP. He said that should be enough, and DMV can do the verification now instead of CHP doing it.

Yeah I'm kinda concerned about that, since all the registration I got sent back to me said that it had to go to CHP for the verification, and CHP is now sending me back to DMV without doing it.

If he is, imma taze his ass and make him fill out a form for me. :rofl

I should be one last trip from DMV away from being legit, but I don't think I'll be able to make it there until next week

I've been slacking on getting the paperwork back to DMV, but I'm gonna see a buddy who is a CHP officer tonight and double check that I've got all the stuff I need.
