Monterey Bay Aquarium Pics

Thanks Alex,
I have been waiting to see current pics of the shark.
Thanks for sharing.
By the way, those jellies are way cool to watch as well.

Tom

thanks for all the compliments :cool

the jellyfish were definately my favorite!

the shark was so hard to photograph- sometimes the flash would work, but usually it would bounce off the glass and even in good light, the curvature of some tanks made it really tricky, too. but the tank the shark was in didn't allow flash photography, had really thick doubled up glass and alot of light shining down from the top.

next time i plan to go to an aquarium i am going to research how to photograph in that type of setting. and make sure my back-up batteries are charged next time!

my second favorite- jawfish. they are in the goby family and are like the pitbulls of the coral reefs........they live in little tunnels that they dig themselves and attack anything that comes within a 6 inch radius of their hole!

you can buy them at local fish stores- some day i wanna set up a tank and have a little colony of them!

I went to see the White shark a few months ago, it was sad how torn up it was from the fishing net it got caught in. Has it healed any?

she looked a little raggety around the edges, but nothing major and she looks healthy.
i don't know what she looked like when she first arrived, though.

I used to work there, '85 to '87, for the business side. One of the simple pleasures there was being able to read my morning paper and drink a cup of coffee in front of the kelp forest before the crowds over-ran the place after opening the gates.

Nice pics, Gsxrbabe!

That is the closest I'm sure I'll get in awhile. I attempted to go there a few months ago, but when we arrived, circa 10:30am on a random Saturday, the ticket line was out the door, down the block, and then wrapped around in little Disneyland corrals. We gave the aquarium the middle finger and haven't been back.

Glad you got in, though! :D

thanks!

they key to actually getting to look up close at the exhibits in a place like the aquarium is to go on SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!!!! we arrived at noon and stayed till 4 and the only real crowds were around the sea otters at feeding time. absolutely no lines anywhere!

(monterey aquarium has select hours, whereas most zoos or city run attractions are open 10-5/365. so if you wanna go to the sf zoo and actually see the animals go on xmas day!!)

Post the video!!! PLease? :teeth

i want to! not only do i have that nasty penguin acting like a turd, i have a couple of them :sex in a rock crevice up above!

BUT.....

my pc is a p.o.s and it can't support the software needed to download and edit the video :mad

but i'll work on it- there are alot of cute bits on the video- especially the sea otters floating on their backs snacking on shrimp or the baby great white slowly making her rounds in the tank and the jawfish beating the crap out of each other!

(if anyone is a whiz or has time to advise me on how to get the video off the mini dv tape and onto a puter running win2000 on a pentium II 400mHz machine i am all ears :toothless)
