Moto Guzzi V7 Racer - thoughts?

helicopters are dangerous. if made by a motorcycle manufacturer, and italian one at that, i imagine they fall apart in their own rotor wash

I didn't wanna go thru 10 pages, do the number plates (especially on the tail piece) come off pretty easily? Kinda looks like they might...

EDIT: Oh, and didn't Lambo start out as a tractor company?

The number plates do come off easily. I suggest you head over to http://wildguzzi.com/ if you want to learn about the Guzzi small-block bikes from fanatics that love them.

I owned a Breva 750 as my first street bike, which is the same basic bike and engine as the V7 Racer, and absolutely loved it for riding the back roads around Northern California..... not so much for freeway runs. The hp numbers are definitely not impressive, but ya know what they say about riding slow bikes fast :thumbup

Bullshit. Ever seen a Honda Civic after a crash..?

Umm, Agusta started out as a Helicopter manufacturer, which decided to built racing motorcycles, then branched out into street bikes.

Besides, (now that Honda has been brought up) Honda, which DID start out making motorcycles, has recently entered the business jet market.

Kelly and I wandered into the local Guzzi dealer and I gotta say, the V7 Racer is fucking sexy as hell. I'd definitely rid the bike of the numbers first and foremost, though. Other than that, it's surprisingly comfortable and has a low seat height (Kelly was able to get both feet to the ground and she's barely 5'5"! :wow )

However, I've been saying for a while that they need to make a V11 Racer and that I'm surprised they don't bring that engine out as an option with the Racer models. Then I realized why...

If it were me steering the M.G. ship, I'd wedge that Griso engine into the Racer's chassis...somehow. :laughing

Review of this bike in the latest Motorcycle Consumer News.

Sounds like a beautiful relaxed "cruiser."

Evidently they are all spoken for.

Which one? The V7 Racer? The place I was at had two of them on the floor and one Griso. :dunno

That's what they said but they actually tested the V7 with the optional $2,000 "Record Kit" so that must be the model with all units already spoken for.

Here's a Cycle World test.

Sounds like a mellow bike to ride that will slow down every single stop you make as you will have to deal with questioning admirers!

Yeah with that kit I'd agree. The dealer just had the standard Racer models. Not that there's anything wrong with those. :ride

Metal tank, no ethanol expansion swelling failures like with the early V7s, Ducs - and every other bike that didn't use polyethylene and a Tupperware cover.

Just pointing out the obvious that it doesn't apply to everyone...as the general BARF consensus seems to be.

Regardless, this all has absolutely nothing to do with the namesake of the thread.

Forgot, you're special and the exception to every experience on the planet, Mr. Contrarian.

Duc news

Duc lawsuit

I've had my tank replaced only to have my new tank bubble in 6 months. My bike wasn't sitting (new fuel every other day) and it whines like a baby with expansion. There's nothing I can do except plan for a metal tank conversion in the near future as I've already used my one-time replacement ($2k).

I would/will not buy another plastic tank as long as ethanol is in the mix.

OP here. I did end up buying the bike. I've only had a chance to take it out 3 times so far, but it's freaking badass :cool The seating position is very comforting, steering is easy, bike is light and plenty quick enough for what it is. It sounds pretty throaty with the arrow pipes.
