My dog got attacked yesterday

I've honestly tried to convince myself that my fear of pits is just based on my own ignorance. The more I looked in to it, the more I researched it unfortunately the more it had proven to me pits should not be owned as pets.
Its a free country, feel free to own them.
I will always do my best to stay away.

Btw I know "Lefty" here on Barf has pits that are like children to him and I've had a similar coworker that had pits as nice as mellow cats.
I still feel it is a russian roulette with that breed and similar ones.
I have no interested what so ever in dogs that were breed for fighting, period.

Hey, im not at all trying to come at you sideways, i compketely understand your point of view, even if i dont agree.

Originally, the early versions of the pitbull werent bred for fighting. They were bred for baiting/trapping almost like modern day hog hunting dogs are. In certain areas bull or bear baiting was outlawed, or if not, during downtime, owners turned to dogfighting as a sport or means to make extra cash.

I understand your concerns. Most dogs if they attack, will get a bite or two in and leave it at that. Hiwever, a pitbull, just keeps goin and going. Its just their drive. Their determination. Their focus to whatever challenge is in front of them. But oh my god, the love, the loyalty, the gentleness and unconditional love of a pitbull brought up n raised correctly is uncompareable to any other breed ive ever owned. Theyre just amazing, amazing dogs. I promise.

Glad your dog is ok.

We adopted a pit mix (boxer or great dane) she is great even with little dogs that snap at her. But she isn't so good with bigger dogs, I just don't know what it is but she triggers them to get agressive. She currently has a couple teeth marks on her head.

:laughing OK, that just took a better turn... ;)

Lay back, put on a movie if u can concentrate enough, cus ill be "down there" for awhile!! Hahaha, too many guys got no clue what theyre doin down there. In an hour long oral session, your lady should "finish" at least 3 times. If not then......

...... shit, aint this a dog attack thread??:later

these are what we use

with a 100# dog it's just too risky to allow a random to come up and free pet her. She's super well trained but has her "ticks". She doesn't like bikes or skateboards... they tense her up/sketches her out. So when kids come up on them wanting to pet her, she's already on edge.

red you're dead

This

Absolutey shocked that it was a pitbull. I see the usual "it's not the breed, it's the owner" folks already put in their 2 cents. Now just waiting on the friendly pitbull pictures...

So, just a thought... a dog that needs to be on one of the red leashes pretty much shouldn't be out in public, at least not without a metal basket muzzle... and if I had a dog that needed a yellow leash, I'd still have some real concerns about taking that dog out in public... :dunno

Am i wrong for picking up on sarcasm? Or are you on a similar page as "corb"?

Those two are on the same page. Lots of noise without a valid argument.

JRex, I just posted a new photo of my rabid killer in the dogs thread if you're interested. :thumbup

Yes sarcasm, not scared of them, don't think most people should own them, or atleast take them out in public. They're an agressive breed, they have their place, around other people and other peoples pets I don't believe is one of them. That being said I wouldn't ban them, this is America and I believe people have the right to be stupid (see my 2 post lift thread :) )

Always find it funny that the owners of pitbulls always mention how friendly their animals are around them. No shit, you feed, water, and house the animal since most likely an early age. Just because your dog doesn't bite you doesnt mean it won't likely bite somebody or something else.

Not gonna check out your pictures in that thread but thanks. Never really understood the appeal, I think theyre a relatively ugly breed to be honest. That and they're dumb.

Its like half of me kind of understands their concerns, but then my smarter half kicks in and is baffled by some peoples ignorance and blanket hatred. Although its dogs and not people, fuck me, its the same as racism.

If u wanna hate pitts solely because of their looks, hey, fine, no problem. I hate the way greyhounds look. But to hate pitbulls because youve drunk the koolaid, and think theyre uncontrollable attack dogs, it honestly jus makes me sad for the breed.

Certain breeds are good for hunting, some for racing, some for guarding, some for pulling in extreme weather, some for fighting, etc etc. Acting like all breeds have the same traits, characteristics, and temperment and just look different is retarded.

Ive never said what youre implying. And yes, i agree completely. However if you think that a pitbull is only good for one thing, fighting/attacking, then youre being retarded and horribly ignorant.

Give me a golden retriever pup, and i gaurantee i can raise it to be an attacking, aggressive killer. Give me a pitbull pup, born from fighting parents, fuck great great grand parents, and i gaurantee i can raise it to be gentler than fuckin Bambi!!!

Glad you dog is alright!

A couple nights ago my wife and I were on bikes while running our puppy down the street and all the sudden a big old lab comes running up behind us and bites our dog on the neck. It released and I tried to crack the dog the best I could to get it away from ours. It finally backed off and followed me to the owners house, growing at me the whole time. I yelled at the owner when she finally came to the door. She had the nerve to get mad at me for being upset, despite that her large, unleashed, aggressive dog had just chased and bit my 30lb puppy, totally unprovoked.

Anyway, couldn't agree more with point 1 and 2!

Check with your city/county if they would send the aggressive unleashed dog to the pasture. If you don't do it, the next time it might be some kid who'd lose his life.

Oh man,

My wife's sisters dog is a dog aggressive dog and it sucks not being able to take him out. He's a good yard dog though.

Everyone might as well own a pet tiger using that logic.

Would be the responsible thing to do, doubt I'd go through the trouble though.

My Wifes sister has one too, escaped the yard and killed the neighbors cat :laughing

2 min after meeting Mrs. Glows pittbull, the dog and I were playing tug of war and throw and chase with a ball in the hallway. Dog seemed pretty friendly to me? I had never been to their home before, so based on its reaction to a stranger in its home I would have to say that dog is friendly.

To answer a few questions and to keep this from turning into a anti-pitbull thread (too late I know).

1. Reaper, I don't know how the interaction started. I was walking up with my dog on leash (and our other two dogs on leash). The other couple had three dogs, the one that fought, a black lab, and a white mixed collie type. The guy was warning me about his black lab, which was off leash with the white dog. The attacking dog was on leash. I was trying to avoid the lab and evidently my dog was close enough for the other dog to attack.

2. The attacking dog was not a pitbull. He was a gigantic dog that likely had some pit, and some cana presario.

3. All three of my dogs are pit mixes. None are aggressive. This fight had nothing to do with pitbulls or the myth that they are deadly.

4. Looking back, I believe that the attacking dog was protecting his herd from a perceived threat. His owners were holding back the other dog and we were approaching. This was a threat and he attacked my dog as he was closest.

Hope this helps clear up some misconceptions.

For the record I used to feel the same way about pitbulls, until I spent some time around them. look a the photo of Boomer I posted. That is a pitbull in its natural environment.

The irony here is this dog's best buddy is a cat, my cat, they play tag all the time. They grew up together though.

My wife is good at interpreting animal behavior, I'm not so good at it. Some dogs need owners who can interpret this bad behavior and turn it into good behavior.

We use hamburger or beef bones to take this dogs attention off the other dog.. Mmmm.. hamburgers and beef bones..

To be fair, I'm sure Miss Coco was a bit relaxed by her owner introducing you, and obviously treating you as a friend. That might skew the results of our impromptu survey.
I think a complete stranger meeting her on neutral ground would be a much better indicator of 'friendliness', even better if the gregarious and beautiful Erin were absent.

Personally, I'm of the mind the she is very friendly. Erin also.

Never said his dog wasn't
