I've honestly tried to convince myself that my fear of pits is just based on my own ignorance. The more I looked in to it, the more I researched it unfortunately the more it had proven to me pits should not be owned as pets.
Its a free country, feel free to own them.
I will always do my best to stay away.
Btw I know "Lefty" here on Barf has pits that are like children to him and I've had a similar coworker that had pits as nice as mellow cats.
I still feel it is a russian roulette with that breed and similar ones.
I have no interested what so ever in dogs that were breed for fighting, period.
Hey, im not at all trying to come at you sideways, i compketely understand your point of view, even if i dont agree.
Originally, the early versions of the pitbull werent bred for fighting. They were bred for baiting/trapping almost like modern day hog hunting dogs are. In certain areas bull or bear baiting was outlawed, or if not, during downtime, owners turned to dogfighting as a sport or means to make extra cash.
I understand your concerns. Most dogs if they attack, will get a bite or two in and leave it at that. Hiwever, a pitbull, just keeps goin and going. Its just their drive. Their determination. Their focus to whatever challenge is in front of them. But oh my god, the love, the loyalty, the gentleness and unconditional love of a pitbull brought up n raised correctly is uncompareable to any other breed ive ever owned. Theyre just amazing, amazing dogs. I promise.
OK, that just took a better turn...
