NC35 (re)build thread - tis the season for 400cc greybikes

Yeah, yeah. In the next couple of weeks I'm going to mount up my set of CF bodywork. Want to come over and pick the tank lock for me?

Make that 88K+KMs now.

7k miles per year? NC35 probably not the most comfortable to commute on. Do you live at the track? :laughing

I'm almost at 88K in a little over a year, so since I've had it I've been averaging ~11K (KMs)/year. I'm not the tallest guy, so I've found the ergos to be pretty comfortable considering my past bikes (RC51/600RR). The only issue I have with it is that commuting or highway miles of any distance where you're riding over 75mph suck due to my gearing.

So how's about a 400 Grey bike (or just a funky/smaller bike ride)? Did you guys end up doing one back in '15

I'll bring my cb-1.

I'd ride. I still have my FZR400 since new. Not grey but pretty rare now-a-days.

My buddy calls me up last September. "I've got Totes."

Totes is the name of his pickup truck, the one we used to haul the RVF to Deal's Gap.

"I'm coming to get the RVF."

Okay, I say.

I had lost the key to the RVF's gas tank about 3 years prior, pre-COVID, and a bunch of friends were coming to down for an annual ride in the hills. I'd sold my VFR800, so the RVF was my only bike. He was picking it up to take it to another friend's house to get it roadworthy so I could join everyone. I don't have time for that kind of shit any more.

So they did. New gas cap, replaced every fluid in the bike, spooned on new tires, hell... they even washed it for me.

My friends are great like that.

And I did. I rode it around for a couple of days with some buddies I hadn't seen for a long, long time. Guys I learned to ride with 20 years ago. The bike performed flawlessly, of course, and everyone who wanted to take it for a spin did. Few people will ride it as hard as I do, but even at 5 or 6 tenths you can tell it's something special. And that noise! My god, the noise it makes still gives me flashes of the 90s, when Honda built bikes that were special and they went racing like it meant something. And then I left it at my friend's house to play with until a few weeks ago, and then Totes brought it back home.

It's been 11 years since I chained this bike to the fence at the original Moto Shop. It's been a really good 11 years. I couldn't tell you how many track days I've done, or how many times I've run up to Alice's on a weekday afternoon, or how many times I took it apart and put it back together again at Moto Guild.

But it has sat more than I'd like. Life has a way of getting in the way. And I'm just not in the right frame of mind now to push myself, even when I do ride it. And it's just not fair to own an incredible bike like this and let it rot. I won't do it. The previous owner stashed it away and used it as art, but this bike has a plate and it starts right up every time, and it is still awful on the street :laughing but it still gathers a small crowd (of old dudes) where ever it goes.

In short, hey look it's me: :afm199

So I'm putting it up for sale. This is the first place I'm saying so publicly. To a California buyer only, please, because if it ever leaves the state it'll never have a CA plate again. I think I'll be happier knowing it's being ridden by someone else than being hoarded by me, and if you're reading this thread you're probably the kind of owner I'd like it to have.

I rode it up to STP last week and took some pics. This is how it sits.

I haven't done an inventory of spare parts, but off the top of my head, I've got
  • A mint-condition tank in Castrol Honda colors
  • A spare swingarm
  • The rest of the Tyga CF bodywork in original wrapping (see this comment for why it's got the CF tail on it)
  • A full set of Cabin replica decals (from Italy!) I never got around to putting on the CF bodywork
  • An F4i oil-to-water cooler I never bothered to put on
  • Some other bits and bobs

I don't have a concise list of all the trick parts it's got, but it's got lots of trick parts. Full suspension, lightweight this, aluminum that, full exhaust, and on and on. You've read the thread, you've got the idea.

I think I'd like to get $14k for it and all its spares. That feels fair.

Hm. Weird. All of them or just some? I can’t find a way to make them not show up.

I believe my sister in law has one in her garage. She used to race it. My brother has done track days on it.

My mistake. She has a 1995 CBR400RR race bike, an in-line four.
