NC35 (re)build thread - tis the season for 400cc greybikes

3 laps in - could be heat related and ignition components failing, not carbs. Would be able to recreate it on the street by riding it for a bit until everything gets hot.

You should just do the petcock mod and see if that fixes it. The mod seems pretty easy based on the pics I've seen on 400GB/Akara.

My NC30 has the HRC petcock mod and no issues at the track.

If it's heat related, I know few guys that run the Chinese rads and although look shitty, they definitely work better than OEM..

Yee fuckin' haw.

The short report is that one of either blowing backwards through the fuel filter, replacing all the gas in the tank, or modifying the petcock did the trick. The mod was super-easy, and reversible if I ever want to. I'm already pretty bad at remembering to turn the petcock off when I'm done riding the bike, and hopefully I don't regret this now that it actually matters. The overriding sense I have lately is that my "a street bike, I promise!" bike has taken one step closer to being a track toy. Which is great and all, but you know how things go...

In any case, six sessions with Precision at Thill's full course were fan-fucking-tastic. The RVF absolutely ripped. There are a few sections where I was easily passing much faster bikes with much faster riders. From 9E to 3W is a great example. The RVF has exactly enough power to float the front wheel down the hill, which means I can fucking pin it, and it has more than enough handling to make it through the kink at 2W at WOT-down-the-hill speeds. I think I passed more bikes there than anywhere else. Another fun spot is into 1W. From the hairpin at 10W, I could pin the throttle and not touch the brakes until I was ready to turn right toward 2W. All day, riders would scream past me on the straight, and then I'd pass them with a 15 mph delta into 1. And my god, passing people on the outside while cresting the hill into 9W is indescribable. I know I've waxed poetic before, but the handling of this bike is just sublime, and it begs to be ridden harder. Unfortunately, I have a skill deficit and a thirst for speed, so I made myself sit out session 7. Frankly, I wanted it too bad, and it's just a track day: no point in taking risks. :)

The only mechanical issue I had was that the racebikelette wants to be a racebike so bad that it started shedding street parts...

Unfortunately, the bolt that holds the bracket that retains the seat latch backed itself out, and the entire mechanism was lost with the seat somewhere on the track, meaning that even if I got the seat back, I'd never be able to reattach it. On the other hand, I do have this CF monoposto tail sitting in a box in the garage...

Glad you found the problem. Great chatting with you @ Sears the other day.

Nice. Glad it worked out. I haven't been on the track with any bike in a years and this is making me want to get the track fairings on my RVF and take it back out.

You've done everything right as far as I can tell.

I made that mistake a few years ago, except mine was a track only 3XV.:thumbup

Yeah, this is formerly BAE 557's bike, complete with CA plate. I'm pretty eager to pose at Alice's with it, but first I need a reg and some tires.

WELL THAT WAS A SHORT RELATIONSHIP WITH A TWO-SMOKER

I admit, the poor RVFlette sat and rotted while I dallied with that TZR, but the TZR went to a new home two days ago and I've been thinking about this box of fun RVF parts collecting dust...

Hello old friend.

It's been a while.

If you’re not going to ride it, you should at least do the decent thing and give it to me
