Yee fuckin' haw.
The short report is that one of either blowing backwards through the fuel filter, replacing
all the gas in the tank, or modifying the petcock did the trick. The mod was super-easy, and reversible if I ever want to. I'm already pretty bad at remembering to turn the petcock off when I'm done riding the bike, and hopefully I don't regret this now that it actually matters. The overriding sense I have lately is that my "a street bike, I promise!" bike has taken one step closer to being a track toy. Which is great and all, but you know how things go...
In any case, six sessions with Precision at Thill's full course were fan-fucking-tastic. The RVF absolutely ripped. There are a few sections where I was
easily passing much faster bikes with much faster riders. From 9E to 3W is a great example. The RVF has exactly enough power to float the front wheel down the hill, which means I can fucking
pin it, and it has more than enough handling to make it through the kink at 2W at WOT-down-the-hill speeds. I think I passed more bikes there than anywhere else. Another fun spot is into 1W. From the hairpin at 10W, I could pin the throttle and not touch the brakes until I was ready to turn right toward 2W. All day, riders would scream past me on the straight, and then I'd pass them with a 15 mph delta into 1. And my god, passing people on the outside while cresting the hill into 9W is indescribable. I know I've waxed poetic before, but the handling of this bike is just
sublime, and it
begs to be ridden harder. Unfortunately, I have a skill deficit and a thirst for speed, so I made myself sit out session 7. Frankly, I wanted it too bad, and it's just a track day: no point in taking risks.
The only mechanical issue I had was that the racebikelette wants to be a racebike so bad that it started shedding street parts...
Unfortunately, the bolt that holds the bracket that retains the seat latch backed itself out, and the entire mechanism was lost with the seat somewhere on the track, meaning that even if I got the seat back, I'd never be able to reattach it. On the other hand, I
do have this CF monoposto tail sitting in a box in the garage...
