New beer you had - Tell us about it.

I'm going to hafta call a technicality on the shadow masturbation performance and the granddaddy sack tag. The Guinness Red I had in London 5 years ago came out with Guinness Extra-Cold draft and was available only in O'neils Pubs. Red Harvest Stout may be the same, but I will have to try it before i whip out the baby maker spread pearl jam on the face of Dan's shadow or lace up a pair of 12 ouncers and drop the rope-a-dope-stick-and-move on some octagenarian scrotum.

lol - let me know if you can't find it. My beer guy can get me more. :thumbup and I would be happy to send some up your way

I did some reading and the Guinness Red was test marketed in England. Both that and the red harvest stout have an identical 4.1% alcohol content. That isn;t exactly fool proof, but I'd say there is a good chance I am in for some Shadow Bukakke and Yakoo's Grandad is having a good birthday. :laughing

I'm not a beer guy, never have. Always hated the taste. Only drank Guinness cuz it tasted good. I stick to souts and porters when I can.

Few weekend ago I tried three stouts...it was a party :laughing

All were great!

I love Sammy Smiths Oatmeal Stout. I used to have it for desert all the time.

Maybe I am more of a stout guy than I thought. :laughing

The Black Butte Porter has been my from-the-store standard for 14 years. :thumbup

Growing up in the BA and living near Bear Republic and others, I thought beer nirvana was a thing of the past moving down here. It is not. A new Stone opened 5 minutes from the house and there are some UCD area stores that have unreal selection, like more than one Barleywine!

San Diego is killing the BA in the brewing race. Water, building moratoriums and taxes helped insure that I'm sure. Norgorve Sr. (Bear Republic) was quoted as saying demand for his products exceeds capacity by a lot. Makes sense, since there were people falling over themselves over Racer 5 in NYC.

A new beer I had was Green Flash Barleywine. The line between grain brewed and extracts has been blurred for me. Used to be obvious, but now I think Lagunitas is mostly extract in the primary, and you wouldn't know.

linden brewery. uber casual hopless. sounds like. different. next to the west oakland railroad tracks, which you could theoretically ride on til the 9:10 rolls thru.

Not exactly a new beer...but one of my favorites.

You can find it at BevMo but, like most beers, I much prefer the taste on tap to the ones in the bottles. Teske's Germania is the only bar I've ever found to have Bitburger on tap. I highly recommend their litre mug! :thumbup

The craft brew movement is a West of the Rockies thing mostly that has only recently been spreading to the East Coast. Craft breweries don't have the capacity to "export" to the East Coast and bottles don't travel as well. Still, I think we're less snobby, so we get good East Coast stuff like Dogfish Head.

Even Sierra Nevada is an exotic past the Rockies. Anchor Steam will be ramping up production in a few years and they will be the 2nd largest "craft" brewery behind Sierra Nevada once they build their new brewpub/brewery next to ATT Park.

I love the Linden St. Black Lager.

They don't do anything but kegs. You have to find a place with it in tap. They only brew one beer at a time so if all the black lager gets sold you can't get anymore till they get around to making it again. Small batch stuff. Really good.

I also tried Drake's Aroma Coma (IPA) for the first time last night. Daaaang! Can't remember if anyone mentioned that one yet, but it's reallllly good! I've had their regular IPA and Denogginizer but this one's my favorite.

:wave

Drake's also has an Aroma Prieta, but I prefer the Coma.

mmmm Coma.

New Beer: Guinness Red Harvest Stout

Very nice, smooth finish, not super stouty but enough to make it fun to drink.

living in SD county? where at?

SD county pwns everyone in microbrews. there are 11 (or going to be within a few months) in the small town of Vista alone. warehouse space is cheap out there, making starting a brewery in Vista a lot easier than more central in SD.

everyone in the BA should really hope this beer makes it up there

Sierra Nevada is opening a brewery in N.C. to share our awesome beer w/ that coast too.

Just tried Racer 15 last night. I already loved racer 5, and this stuff is even better.

Damn that shit is good.

Never had this one or even saw it until this. This might be worth strip up Healsdburg.

1) So somebody mentioned San Diego three posts ago... I don't know that much about brewing in SandyE so I'd question that, but I did have a good beer from over there recently:

Saison Diego
Brewery: Green Flash Brewing Co.
Style: Saison / Farmhouse Ale
ABV: 4.3%

It had a pretty good taste!!!

2) In contrast, ... recently I tried the Alaskan Amber (on tap I think).. I would give it a meh, I was disappointed (and thought.. oh.. from Alaska)
