Wait...picking out names? Yeah, congratulations on the new kitty!
I found a tiny little orange and white kitty at Pottery and Beyond in Emeryville last Friday. I'd stopped in there after going to Pet Club, and had lots of cat food in the car. One of the employees had been feeding him every day. He had 2 siblings but they had already disappeared. The pottery place has lots of plants and fountains...and raccoons and opossums. I spent 4 hours on Saturday trying to trap him with my friend Chris. She's a veteran of TNR, rescue, foster, SPCA volunteer...the whole bit. She knows what she's doing and showed me what to do. Anyway, got there at opening on Sunday and stayed til closing, waiting...and waiting...with the trap set with lots of good stinky food, and no go. The nice guy who works there put my number in his phone and said he'd call me if anyone spotted him, and of course he hasn't called yet. I checked back with him during the week, and I still have the trap sitting in my living room. I had my bathroom set up with food, water, litter box, comfy box with blanket for sleeping, a tiny mouse toy, and a hidey-hole box so he could hide from me. Eric and I were discussing names, which was my downfall. When he didn't show his sweet little face by the end of Sunday I was inconsolable. It feels like a loss, even though he was never mine. The very last thing we need right now is another cat...especially a feral kitten!...and especially after taking on Mercer, but I had already committed to this little kitty in my heart. I'm not cut out for this rescue business, I guess...
