I thought last week was just a one off, she seems to have taken quite an interest in my work.
But her insistence in holding my hand isn't helping with production.

At 14 months? Oh, absolutely. I'm sure they're a solid 5% more mellow now.

Our orange cat is about to turn 7. He, literally, bounces off the walls. A favorite game of his is to race down the hall, jump into the window sill, bounce off that and land back on the floor, in the curtains. Where he then proceeds to howl.

But, he's mellowed a bit.

Last night my little girl Mae was doing her nightly laps through the house. She's a runner, and takes full advantage in the still of the night when her bully big brother Apollo is sleeping. She is a very small cat, and has the tiniest paws of any cat I've ever had, yet when she runs through the house on the hardwood floors, you'd swear you were hearing a horse instead of a cat. She also likes to push on doors and make them move. Our cat sitter once found her locked in the bathroom. Now we have to put a chair under the doorknob when we leave. She has also never met a tree she wouldn't climb, and races up numerous trees every day. She's 11 years old, so...

So here's the cat I dropped off at the vet to get his tooth fixed that was broken down into the pulp...

And this is the cat I picked up after the procedure...

I had to open up the carrier and make sure this was Apollo! He was pretty sketched out when we got home. They sent me home with liquid painkillers and anti-inflammatories in pill form. For a cat who is notoriously difficult to administer meds to in the best of times, and especially after getting a total of 3 teeth pulled, that just wasn't happening. This boy has burned through several lives already, what with a broken hip, a foxtail in his urethra, a few fight-related injuries and whatnot, and he has always eaten food with liquid gabapentin and/or buprenorphine in it. Not this time, of course  He wouldn't eat his food with the crushed up anti-inflammatory in it, either. Not even "gravy train" made with Friskies dry food (I use it as treats, not food!) was working. After trying everything under the sun, my vet gave me some pain meds in pill form and I got some of those paste-in-a-tube licky treats for cats that Apollo happens to love, shoved the whole pill down into the middle of it, and fed the treat to him like I always do. With me sitting on the footstool in the kitchen, Apollo on the floor with his front paws on the bottom step of the stool, and his head tilted all the way up towards me, he gulped that stuff down in short order and didn't even notice the pill. Yay! A much-needed victory in a very stressful time for both of us. My little Golden Nugget is feeling much better now, and so am I. He is looking much more normal, too.

I've seen that look in my past cats' faces after getting their teeth cleaned. Too rolling stoned.

Giving pills is always challenging and I'm happy that he's doing better.
