PSA Re: Bicyclists

Nope.

I looked it up, it's not allowed but apparently most cops won't ticket for it.

In sf, most cops wont ticket for most things....saw a veh almost run over a ped, and the cop, who was right behind watching, just pulled next to the driver and yelled at them.....

So this bothers me, and it's not even directly related to cycling. If I was driving a car, and someone tapped my window and said I almost hit them and to be more careful, I'd probably go "Oh sorry, I didn't see you, I'm truly sorry I'll be more careful" or whatever.

Today a lady almost merges into me so I tap on her window and let her know and her response kis "OK. You didn't need to break my window".

What. The. Fuck. She was 100% un-apologetic, and then told me not to "break" her window (WHat am I arnold? I tapped it with my fingers).

Now I see why people attack cars.

Someone taps on my window, it better be a cop. That's all I'm sayin'.

Or what? Is that supposed to be intimidating? Am I supposed to remember this and go "Oh no, it might be the guy that told me not to do that?"

And what would you want to teach them? If someone accidentally almost kills you, you should suck it up?

Jesus christ dude maybe you just shouldn't be riding a bike in SF.

He's being more of a straight talker on these facts actually. Riding a bicycle in urban environment is tougher than some people realize..

If it's the Mercedes truck on 8th St and Bryant, well duh, it is blocking that place at some times.

Is that legal? I often see construction type trucks or delivery trucks park literally wherever they want. On a painted median. Bike lane. Whatever. I know they have a job to do, but what's the actual legal procedure for such things? Do they need a permit?

I know cars need to drive in and out of the bike lane to access parking spots or leave parking spots...nobody is annoyed at that. It's when they choose to do it or stop in the lane with their flashers. Frankly not one bicyclist gives a crap that your blinkers are on...

No, it's quite more possibly not legal, but relax. If you want to start an observation video blog, cool.
Or maybe an "anti-parking-in-the-bicycle-lane" movement, that's your choice... it might bring more of a result... but may be a little bit of a nazi way of demanding things.

No, I just complain on the internet, I'm not even a slacktivist.

I'd like send a photo of Mercedes truck to corporate but I'd be shocked if they even respond.

Tap on someone's window and you're escalating a situation to beyond what it should be. Are you still upright? Then get on with your day.

I've ridden bicycles a lot in urban environments and yes, it sucks. I've been hit. I have never ever tapped on someone's window. Only time I have was when I got rear ended (in a car) and the person who hit me wouldn't get out of the car to exchange info.

Tapping on someone's window is only going to enrage them. That or distract them to the point that the situation gets even worse. I dunno, to me, you're inviting disaster.

You said if someone taps on YOUR window it had better be a cop, so I'm asking what the consequences of tapping on your window are.

The lady was pulled over and parked, it was unlikely she'd have time to start the car and mow me down before I was away. I also have a digital camera on the bicycle.

I dunno, depends on what the window tapper does when I tell him to go fuck his mom. :twofinger You're not going to get a positive reaction from me, nor an apology. A hearty fuck you or three, for certain.

Like I thought. Internet tough guy, unapologetic. Typical American driving attitude. Everything is someone else's fault, I'd rather get into a fight that admit I'm wrong.

Is Skitch a word?

Verb

skitch (third-person singular simple present skitches, present participle skitching, simple past and past participle skitched)

(intransitive) To hitch a ride by holding on to a motor vehicle while riding on a skateboard, roller skates, or bicycle.

Wrong according to whom? I've been screamed at and flipped off by bicyclists who were 100% riding like assholes and were 100% riding illegally. I imagine most window-tapping cyclists likely do a lot of stupid shit and are holier than thou, self righteous twats. I have no problem telling a douchbag cyclist to go fuck himself and will not apologize for THEIR stupid behavior.

Tough guy? Because I won't apologize to dickheads? Right. Where did I say I'd suplex a mofo into the sewer drain? Cuz THAT is tuff guy shit. :twofinger

In this case, I am assuring you there was no dickishness. I outlined the scenario.

Clearly continuing to discuss it with you is a waste of everyone's time.

I feel you HappyHighwayman.

Bicycling, especially in an urban environment, is better for literally everyone else. Critical mass of cyclists reduces traffic, pollution, parking issues, and generally makes everyone more mobile including non cyclists.

The paradox is no one in the city gives a shit about cyclists. In that environment with people everywhere risking your life with their apathy it's totally natural to try protect yourself or yell at people so they don't do the same thing to someone else, which the cagers point to as bicycles being assholes. The negative cycle perpetuates itself.

After my probable hit and run two weeks ago while I was on a bicycle and my broken fingers last year I think I've given up on it. I'll burn a tank of gas a week instead using my motorcycle to go 3 miles instead of a faster and more efficient machine because the city is totally broken and no one cares. F*** you SF. People every day are trying to help you and you're doing your best to stop them. :twofinger

Edit: I don't even like bicycles by the way. I just did it because I care about things like congestion and pollution.
