Radio Controlled Airplanes?

My apologies Bro.

I'm not into the 'flying men' r/c. It is just 'not my thing'. No offense intended.

No prob. Wasn't sure if someone had pissed in your wheaties or if it was a
or what:rofl

After 25yrs of all sorts of r/c flying, I thought it looked like a fun change of pace...

It's obviously not mine either, that's why I offered it up to Barfers. Though whoever wants it should probably have their high alpha dialed.

I do have a weedwacker that I converted for planes. A lawnmower is a great idea!:teeth

I am going to be picking up a Dynam Hawker Tempest here shortly, for the price it's hard to beat. If a little slow....

Need to replace the large warbird that, well, has been destroyed.

I was at Aero Micro yesterday for repair supplies and browsing the planes. Can't decide on one though. Kind of leaning to this...

Don't know much about the differences. I only have 3 planes (1 out of commission) and a 4th half built. I just like to fly. Das alls I know.

ParkZone's are built great....

But to get a Parkzone with flaps and retracts, you're in general in it well over $300 when all is said and done. You can get a few other brands, including FMS, RocHobby, Dynam, Durafly, etc, etc, with all of that including lights and flaps and retracts ALREADY installed -- which you have to do yourself on a Parkzone -- for around $200.

Antarius-

How much and where from? Have you received it yet? If so, please give us a flight report.

I may go out for a quick flight. I have been under the weather due to an eye injury. I went to see my Eye Dr yesterday. I will be starting a bunch of meds, so I had better fly while I have the chance.

Get out there!!

It was $129 plus tax and shipping from nitro planes.

1250mm, retracts, lights.... ARF. Epo foam.

I'll report back as soon as I get it.

I did not fly today. My eyes are really bothering me. I am afraid I would just destroy a plane by trying to fly with my eyes all screwed up.

I do NOT need another plane, but if I were to buy another- I would get this one from HobbyKing http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__17954__Durafly_310_civil_aircraft_1100mm_PNF_.html

That's pretty cool, Ed!

I need to stop destroying planes too, even if it's not necessarily "my fault." I'm tired of spending good money on it. :)

I'd rather crash one of my fliers than a bike.

That said, I've got some research to do, and get the hell back out there!

I put the Hawker Tempest together yesterday and took her up on her maiden.

All in all I'm pleased. It looks as good or better than the pictures, the EPO is extremely durable (or feels that way anyhow), the retracts seem to work well and it was easy to put together and get up in the air.

There were a couple weird things. It's chinese made, so I'm not surprised, but the pilot didn't fit in the cockpit. He was too big, lol. So, I fly a drone now haha. Secondly, the LED lights in the wings have wires running through the wing and ready to be plugged in -- but there's no resistor or plug on them, so you can't plug them into anything! So, for me, no lights. There are no flaps on this plane, which bother some "scale" people, but it lands great so I don't mind. The other weird thing was the elevator servo was failing right out of the box. Jittering and jumping. My previous experience made me rip that fucker out and toss it in the garbage.

The biggest issue with it was the center of gravity. The manual (if you can call it that) asks for 55-60mm C.O.G., to do that with the recommended battery (2200mah 4S), I had to add almost 80G of weight to the nose. When I did that, it basically wants to tip over when taxying.

I ended up setting a COG of 65mm (forums say 65-70 is good)... and went to fly it off a rough field near my house, not my normal airfield. This proved difficult because it was still "nose heavy" on the ground, which made me have to get it airborne sooner than I wanted.

Once in the air, it basically stalled. I was able to stick with it at an altitude of 5 feet, for literally 10 seconds in a near hover, until I was albe to get the motor spun up and get truly airborne.

Once in the air, its apparent that its designed to fly scale. I fly warbirds "3d" like, with knife-edge and all that stuff, but this one isn't really designed for it. It's not "fast enough," though it does have the torque to recover from stalls and rolls and all that, just not a lot of top speed. Flying weight is pretty heavy, and I assume this causes some of the issue. Anyhow, it's a gorgeous flyer and I'm fine with it being scale-like.

In the future I will only fly this plane off pavement, as grass or even hardback is too tough with its nose-heavy ground characteristics..... and I will allow it to gather more ground speed before rotation. I will take it out in an hour or two and expect to have great results with that type of flying.

The hinges are standard foam hinges and are not taped. I will be cutting them and installing nylon hinges after just a few flights. I don't trust untaped foam hinges, never have, and never will.

All in all, for $129, it's hard to beat ... a super scale looking 1250mm warbird, and one that isn't a Spitfire or P-51, so it's somewhat "rare" to see. Here it is in my house, ready to go:

Future plans: I will put a bigger, higher KV and heavier motor in. This will add the weight to the "front" while making that weight useful, instead of the OUNCES of lead weight I have in it now. A bigger battery is also an option, though the battery compartment only goes so far forward before hitting the motor mount and that would lead me to believe a lot of the added battery weight would be over the center of the plane, effectively negating any added "nose weight" you think you've added. So for me, I'll stick with a 2200 or 2650maH 4S, and put a larger heavier motor up front.

Sorry for the long post.

I would appreciate an invitation to watch. That is all. Cooler with beer? AR triggers? :wow

I love Sandys, Spads, whatever. Skyraider? OK, paging Mr. Douglas!

Don't be sorry. May I come and watch? I will try to make some Napier Sabre sounds (not that anyone alive today knows what they sounded like.......)
