Rain racing?

I race rain or shine, We raced Oregon last month and I won the rain race. It gives me more tools in my bag. If it rains at Willow Springs
on Sunday, Im in for sure. I just want to race.

What about fitting all your rental bikes? Are you prepared to lug those tires around and endure that expense? :)

Hmmm... you just made me think of something else. I'm pretty sure they don't make rain tires in a size that would fit a Ninjette. Also, since Prod classes require DOT tires you couldn't put Prod bikes on rain tires because they are not DOT tires. Maybe Dorn can chime in how they do it in Portland because ALL the current race DOT tires have a very poor tread pattern for dissipating water... arguably not much better than slicks. So the Superbike and Formula classes could run rain tires but the Prod classes could not... unless there is another rule change for Prod legal tires.

Yea, that is huge problem, to change rule to allow rain tires :)
If no rain tire for ninja they can run street tires. They are also much cheaper than race tire. I won races at streets of willow running michelin sport, street tire.
I hear some dual purpose tires also work good, Pirelli MT something or alike.

AFMotorsports....How do the 5342 other race organizations do it? They allow rains in Production classes. To quote someone from another forum, "This ain't Rocket Surgery". :)

At the 2011 Miller race it was raining on and off all day. One of the 600 classes went out, track was dry and started pouring on the warmup lap. All the front runners were on DOT's which I agree, aren't good in the rain. Someone named Clint was first, not sure of his tires, Javelin Broderick on Continentals for second with Hunter Coffin on Pirellis in third.

I remember speaking with Javelin after the race. He started mid pack and he starts moving pretty well, then all of the sudden he sees Garrett Gerloff, coming towards him. He is thinking, OMG I'm running faster than Gerloff, then the same thing happens with Jake Lewis and he passes him too. The four boys were all running DOT's and at least those top five guys didn't crash, I don't remember anyone else.

srsly... I'm actually being productive in my spare time due to the absence of awesome barfing. If this continues, Oneup will have a video soon... and we can't have that! :laughing

and as if on cue :laughing \/\/\/\/

Holy fricken whiners ! Here is a pic where I am leading by half a lap at last years annual thanksgiving race at Infineon in monsoon. Portland guys said it was the most rain they had ever raced in. My rain tires where given to me by Shannon Chris before he passed, they where 6 years old. Looks like its gonna rain again this year and we will be racing rain or shine. Any of you girls want to man up I could rent you a kart for 500$ you buy your own tires, gas and entry. I am doing the all you can race for 250$ . That gives me 5 races and 1 1/2 hours of practice.

:thumbupI'm at Willow Springs and while it is just cloudy now, the forecast says:

Today: A few showers early becoming a steady rain for the afternoon. High 49F. Winds S at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 80%. Rainfall near a quarter of an inch.

I hope the Eric, Brian and all the other Feel Like a Pro guys made it down, because I'm told we will be racing. I even spoke with a guy that sells those black donuts and he brought some of those special ones that are used when the ground is wet.

Here is to safe racing and a great finish to a great year. Tyler's first time at Big Willow on a 600 should be interesting.
