Hey guys just wondering what would any fellow riders and 300 owners would recommend (or have used) for a ninja 300? I could just dump it after a few months of ownership but I'd rather work on it to make it faster and more enjoyable cosmetically and aesthetically. It'll help further my knowledge on bikes and proficiency in the long run as well. Anyone? Lol

How much are you looking to spend? What is it that you want to improve?

The only no-brainer improvement I would say are the brakes. Swap the front brake pads for HH sintered brake pads. Switch out the brake lines for stainless steel brake lines.

Hmm ok. And about a grand honestly ...brakes make that much a difference eh? Lol I didn't know it was that bad

And possibly a grand or less. I'm looking at going to a 636 in a year or so or a gsxr750

They downgraded the brake pads from the 250 to the 300 so yes it does make a huge difference. One of the cheapest things to do.

If you want performance, you're probably looking at a full exhaust + tuner, but $1k isn't going to leave you much for other stuff after that. A slip-on is cheaper but the overall cost is a lot with no added performance. Also remember that whatever you do to the bike isn't necessarily going to add to it's value when you sell it.

Suspension is what I'd do first. Then brakes, if they truly are inadequate.

If you have money left over spent it on riding schools or trackdays. That will be the most bang for buck on how good the bike will perform for you.

put stiffer springs on my 300.. suspension is pretty important i have a lot more confidence going into corners

+1 on suspension and brakes...dumping money for power increase isn't really cost effective..might as well buy that 636...I have a 05 zx10 Im debating on parting with...but its not newbie friendly

Suspension.

Trying to get more power out of a 300 is silly when it is so much easier and cheaper to just buy a bigger bike, but a 300 with some nice suspension bits will be a wicked little twisty road or track machine. A $1000 could get you a nice shock and some gold valves and spring for the front end. Can even pull the shock off and sell separate when you sell the bike to get some of the value back, or keep the bike and turn it into a track machine when you get another bike.

Find a RPM shock for around $200-250...Same from the 2008-2012 250R...
Stiffer front springs from Race Tech or equiv. and thicker oil $150
Brake pads $35 Front Line $50
Leo Vince Full System $450
K&N Filter or equiv $50
Later: Power Commander or equiv. for $300
Later: Better Tires...maybe Dunlop Unbeaten 02s or whatevever is hot ticket for 250...

Wow thx guys! It seems like the way to go is literally suspension+brakes for this bike. Same route I took for my car but it's an overall track monster (evo x) ... yeesh yet it seems like if I want real performance I should chill out with this for a while and swap to something bigger like an r6 or 636....

You're not going to turn a small bike into a big bike with performance mods. It's still a fun and capable bike but don't expect it to be something it's not.

If you are going to sell in a year, don't do anything and just sell it on and spend that money on a "keeper".

Best mod is miles on the ODO, then suspension. :)

This.

leave it stock. it's not your last bike, and I think it's easier to sell a stock bike than a modded one, and you never get your money back from the mods.

I would only upgrade the brake pads when you wear out the current ones.

+1

Put your wallet away, just ride it and save your money for the next bigger better bike dealio.

I put stainless lines and brake pads on all my bikes. Very inexpensive way to get some added performance (confidence?) in knowing what the bike is capable of. Otherwise, leave it stock like others have said.

You can get pads and lines for like $100 for that bike... that's why I would say go for it even if you aren't keeping this bike long term

There is one thing mroe important than any other mod you cna do imo. Make it fit you. Do you like the bar placement? grips? footpeg location? Shift lever length? These are the first things I do on all my bikes if possible.

If you don't mind waiting a couple weeks, I could give you a lightly used set of Vesrah brake pads. They're still perfectly good, but I swapped out my brake caliper so I no longer have a use for them.

Ok. And thx tfkrocks...and honestly now that I've rapidly out grown the bike I'm wondering if I should get most of the money back in a private sale n grab a 636 or a r6 lol
