Response from Woody at Live 105 regarding his statements on the air.

right on woody keep your word.

I was thinking that a billboard with one of thoes clever pictures showing cars and motorcycles sharing lanes, with a clever message on it informing california peps thats lane sharing is Ok

If everyone chipped in to keep it payed for it would be informative and on the news for sure, I for one would pay the motorcycle union dues? what ever its called. I pay 50 bucks a month for hella stupid shit, I can dish out a 10 spot or a 20 spot for a billboard.

there are many forms and clubs in cali and I am sure we could make it work.

Has Woody appologized formally on air? The apology means next to nothing unless issued on air in the same time slot to reach near the same listeners who first were exposed to Woody's views.
An apology on the web is not reducing the negative exposure, till then I'd just wait in traffic engine adding to the smog.

Re: Woody's comments, apology and my 2 cents

I am a 30+ year rider and a new BARF member. I must honestly say that I joined BARF as a result of Woody’s comments. I’ve read a lot of the posts and I’m impressed and amazed at the coordination of the group to get the results that have been achieved in such a short time. I’d like to offer my 2 cents in the hopes that what has transpired can continue to be used in a positive and informative way.

Even though I’ve been riding for many years and lane-splitting for mostly all of these years I’m still a bit confused as to what does “Lane splitting by motorcycles is permissible but must be done in a safe and prudent manner” actually mean. Does it mean you can only split/share at or below a certain speed? Does it mean you cannot split/share above a certain mph than the flow of traffic? Also, is it subjective to the individual officer’s interpretation of “safe and prudent”?

Therefore, if Woody is offering PSA’s to inform the public about the fact that lane splitting/sharing is permissible, would it make sense to get a representative from the California Highway Patrol to explain on-air to both the cager and rider community what exactly “safe and prudent” lane splitting is? I’m sure I’m not alone in wondering what a CHP officer would be looking for in order to stop a rider and ticket us for “unsafe” lane splitting.

Also, maybe Live 105 would like to provide reminders to the public that lane splitting is permissible under California law in the form of messages on their numerous billboards we see along the highway.

Does anyone else think information like this would be beneficial to both communities?

PS. Since this is my 1st attempt at posting hopefully it ends up in the right forum.

Sounds like a job for DougMo!

woody,

thanks for apologizing and trying to do right after your mistake. I think from now on that you need to be a little more careful in what you say in front of the public. Some people out there don't have common sense or brains of there own and will follow certain things people tell them to do, it's sad but true. and as a public personality, unstable people may look up to you and do just what you say and eventhough you take it back later the damage is done, the seed is planted. That's the responsibilty of all public people whether you are a celebrety, a poltician or anyone representing a buisness. You stated in your post that you hope that those people who won't forgive you never make a mistake, in some cases you can't make a mistake. Would you be happy if for some reason you needed surgery and the doctor made a "mistake" and that either caused you to be disabled or dead? Everyone who rides or cares about someone who rides is afraid that some brainless idiot out there might follow your suggestion made originally on air and hurt a rider. Don't get me wrong, I give you props for owning up and doing something about all this. You can't change the past only do something in the present and future. Thanks for the apology, the effort to take the msf course, and the promise for the public safety announcements on motorcycles. many people on this board would like it if you ride for a while afterwards, i just want to say this, riding is not for everyone and eventhough you becoming a rider would be nice i don't want you to feel like you must just to make good, if your not feeling it. Take the MSF course and see how you feel. Come to some of the socail gatherings tho their fun and like posted earlier not everyone rides, I'm just learning but the people are great to hang out with. By the way if your taking the MSF course maybe you could take it on Thurs. 1.26.2006 from 6pm-10:30pm sat and sun 7am-12pm in south san francisco with me and the_phantom we are trying to take the class and their aren't enough people taking it with us plus it would be nice for you to take the class with a bunch of barfers. :p Take care.

Wow, I just listened to the original comments and couldn't believe his repeated mantra that "Everyone in traffic should suffer equally."

Forget the bike stuff, apologize for having too much horseshit between your ears. Who thinks like that?

I'm not a radio listener, but I've been doored twice in my messenger daze.

Good job BARF!

Maybe it's time to dust off Alex Bennet and put him back on the air. I remember him being a little more selective when it comes to putting ones foot in his mouth.

Baby steps... but they're all going toward the right directions. :)

Maybe a nice motorcycle event up in Alice's by summer?

where is this guys radio show at? i know his general area where he is broacasted is goin to be dangerous because people who listen to the radio tend to do what tehy say, so be carefull if your in the area. no matter if he appologized or not.

I just found this thread. BUMP hahaha blast from the past

Funny, I move 2,717 miles away and there's another Woody on the local alternative station morning show. The format's exactly like Live 105.

Same stupid morning show, same 10 songs played over and over again. :/

That guy is still an ass. And he can kiss mine.
