RIP Marco Simoncelli

Godspeed

The commentary is so grim in their voices after the incident. Races are only canceled for one thing. When they jump to Colin you can see it in his expression. He knows. From the Overwhelming Hush in the Pits to the inconsolable anguish on his Girlfriends face. Everyone knows. But no one wants to be the one to say it.

Last time it happened we were at Suzuka. DaiJiro Kato #74 from Telefonica Movistar honda. after that everything changed the Sport pushed for safety safety safety the bikes got smarter and faster 4stroke traction control air fences gravel traps mandatory runoffs. you might argue we overlooked the greatest safety concern.(old riders know what I'm talking about)

But sitting in a gravel trap staring at your riding buddy after something like that is the side of riding you will never see until you're sitting next to your riding buddy. I remember seeing him sitting there. just still. its the stuff no one talks about. I like to think it happened so fast he didn't feel any pain, and in some form of understanding he's still racing but now he's racing against legends that have passed before him. Just a Dream.

So before we psycho-analyze every detail (which some will some wont) Before we look at the helmet and are drawn to old temptations of arguing over pettyness, Lets just take a second to Connect with our Riding buddies, Stunting buddies, touring, cruising, and trailblazing buddies, and just take a moment to connect. not unify, not reconcile, just connect...

Godspeed Marco I hope In some form of Idea your memory will live on and we can embrace the best of your life. :(

Huge loss and sad. :rose I will miss Marco

I hope this sparks a debate about GP racing being a 5 lap race.

This is a very sad day for all Moto GP fans. Marco was a great talent and an awesome personality we really needed in Moto GP. I was more excited for Marco than Rossi this year and I knew he would be my favorite racer very soon. I feel like I have been robbed of being able to watch a great talent. Godspeed Marco. You'll be missed.

It's very sad day for racing, MotoGP has lost one of it's brightest young stars and one I have enjoyed watching races for years. :rip SuperSic

It think that it is going to be extremely tough on Rossi. Not only did he lose a very good friend, but he was the one to hit him in the head. It doesn't matter that he couldn't see him until the last instant, but he may never shake the feel as his bike hit his friend with the killing blow.

Un cuore sportivo

Devastating news. I wanted to write more but can't find the right words.

Ciao, Marco... :rose

My sons and I woke up this morning in a great mood! Jonas (my 5 year old) is a huge motorcycle racing fan.

I made the boys pancakes. They sat down at the table and enjoyed their pancakes as I started the race on the DVR..........

After the crash, my 5 year old turned to me and said, "Dad, I'm worried about Simoncelli........"

I stopped the race then jumped online and found out that Marco Simoncell was dead. I told my 5 year that he was gone. I had to try to describe what that meant. After a couple of minutes, Jonas looked at me and said, "I want to delete the race so I never have to see it again. I don't want Simoncell to be dead." We're both struggling with the emotions of seeing something so devastating as part of something that we get to enjoy together as father and son.

I'm so sorry for Marco's family and friends. I'm so sorry for all the MotoGP fans. I'm so sorry my 5 year old is confused and sad about losing one of his heroes.

I'm so sorry.

I am sorry too. What a tragedy!! :(

My Roommate woke me up at 3am with the bad news. It took a couple of seconds for what he said to sink in. I watch the recorded race on my DVR with disbelief, wanting to yell out, watch out Colin!!!!!!! I awoke again this morning hoping it was a dream.
Ciao, Marco.

Thank you Marco for making our time here on this dusty rock a lot more
memorable.....
You will be missed more then you can ever know.
:rip

:rip Marco

I've only meet him a few times, a very personable young man on his
way to be one of the great ones.

You shall be missed :rose

It's not supposed to be those who struggle and fight with every breath and beat of their heart to improve and succeed who are taken from us. But the cruel, cold hands of death and fate do not play fair or follow the path we desire.

In few other riders could the will to win, to fight and to succeed every second be as clearly seen as they were in Marco. He rode every corner like it was his last, and it's unbelievable and devastating for him to have truly reached it so soon.

He excited, delighted, enthralled and exasperated those who watched him over the course of his career. Sleep well, you soul of competition.

Crushing news, he was so talented and entertaining, the heart of the next generation of GP stars. He was fun to watch and his style set him apart on the tarmac and in the paddock.

He pushed harder and took more risks than most, which was both a strength and a liability. Edwards and Rossi must be gutted, but we (and they) should be thankful they weren't seriously injured (or worse) in the incident too.

Pro racers seem to walk away regularly from significant accidents it's easy to forget how dangerous this sport is. This is a tremendous loss and a sobering reminder of the risks and potential consequences.

The fact that nearly everyone I know who is a race fan has a very, very similar picture of them with Simoncelli says a lot about the guy and his personality. He always took the time with fans.

Word....I agree so much with the posts above.

God Speed Marco.

It was an honor to meet you by chance at SFO in 2010. I am very surprised by your friendliness when you heard me mentioned your name, and you immediately offer a handshake. It was 100% sincere and genuine because it was impromptu, not an organized PR event. It meant a lot to me, and it's no wonder you are love by so many worldwide. I will always remember you as the friendly kid with the big hair, who turns into Super Sic when he dons his leathers.

I had to skip Sun ride today.

Horrible to see. Never seen a helmet come off like that. Just have a feeling this is going to make rossi retire.
