School me: AWD, mid SUV, mid to high end, good mpg

Basic transportation, even luxury vehicles, are not investment vehicles. The only way you're truly going to lose your shirt is if you overpaid or got into a high-interest and/or longterm loan situation. Literally no one with a modicum of common sense thinks they're going to make a profit when selling a used vehicle or trading it in.

Lol I made profit on my last 2 vehicle purchases/sell, a lot is demand, drive somewhere 30-1hr away and demand is either a trickle or rocketing to the sky.

Don't believe me see how many used car dealers do just this lol

The last two years are absolutely not the norm whatsoever. Those days are dying fast.

Looked at the GLC300?

I just looked at it. I ain’t impressed.

Had a GLC300 for a rental this past week. Had 6k miles on it. And sure it was a rental fleet special base model, but Jesus was that thing ever nothing special. The week before my rental was a Chevy Blazer with 33k miles on it (in the rental car world, that’s a well used car) and I swear it drove every bit as good and I’d guess it’s half the cost. And as a plus, the Chevy had wireless CarPlay which came in handy trying to get around a city I’m not familiar with. The Merc has a “nav” button you can push on the dash, but apparently doesn’t do anything since the car wasn’t optioned with it. Yet the button is there. The “leather” it had felt cheap AF. Probably not real. Whatever the hell that GLC300 costs, I can’t see why anyone would choose that over the Acura RDX or the Lexus NX unless they’re just blindly loyal to the three pointed star.

It's no s-class lol. Yeah it's man-made leather on the base model which is priced about $45k. But it comes standard with driver's seat memory with 3 settings :twofinger Interesting note on the nav. I doesn't look like an optional feature if you build one on Mercedes-Benz website. Last couple rental cars I've had, the rental agency had the onboard nav disabled unless you paid extra. I found that weird.

I actually recommended the RDX to one of my customers who is looking for a new car :laughing

wasnt in the covid pandemic either, but w/e

still dont think the buyers market drives pricing - thats your perspective :rofl

August, are you thinking of trying to return it? Best I can tell, none of the lower end Lexus have dual memory settings. The IS350 F-sport we had a few years ago for my GF didn't have any memory seat function. It sucked, but I got used to it. Wasn't' that bad...I probably won't buy another Lexus tho...

Seems a lot of the "experts" disagree with the sentiment, but "w/e". :laughing

99.9% of people are not making money on selling their used car.

This. It's really easy (and fairly common) to lie about how much you actually owe(d) on a vehicle when you traded it in or sold it outright. Only you and your bank examiners are going to know the truth.

We haven't taken it out through the 2 feet of snow in the driveway yet. :-0

yea i know, BUT its pretty easy to buy a hybrid prius in so cal, drive it for 5k miles and sell it in norcal for more $, or Tacos for that matter. The bay area is just nuts - tech $ overpays raises prices for everything since everyone is battling one other for it.

Again its perspective of buyer's market, supply and demand.

Lol, I put snows on the new NX Friday,
but I am out in the GX ( with oversize snows)

i was up there this weekend with the fam and some friends in carnelian bay. wow. i knew what we were getting into but it's still impressive when you're stuck in it :laughing

only took ~7 hours to get home last night... only slightly hyperbole

I’ve lost money on ever car/bike I’ve let go. Huge losses. I sold one of the bikes I got from my dad after he passed away for such a cartoonishly low amount I can’t believe it even today. Thinking back on some of the other ones…lucky me, I’ve always managed to let go of shit when it was at the bottom of the depreciation curve. Jesus Christ, I let got of a 2002 RC51 two years after I bought it for $6k. Bike went out of production a year later, and even to this day you haven’t been able to buy a clean one for that cheap.

And now here we are today. My barely three year old Corvette quickly wound up being an instant classic plus the big bump from the used market as a whole, I could make an absolute shitload of profit on it. But of course it’s the one car I never want to get rid of. So I’ll never make money on that one either.

Yup. Put me in the 99.9% group too.

I don't know what's wrong with y'all, but I've been selling cars for 2-5x what I've paid for them on the regular.
Example:

Buy an old landcruiser shitbox for $3k
$8000 in parts and 200 hrs of labor later
Sell for $15k
Profit!!!
?

$20 an hour seems low for a mechanic with the skills to do this job.
