School me: AWD, mid SUV, mid to high end, good mpg

100% agreed.
I am so pissed off I am going to talk to my wife about giving it back (if possible)

I completely took for granted that this would be a feature of this brand at this level in this day and age.
There was so much other tech to look at and play with during our time with it that I didn't even think of it.

It's like asking if the car has Bluetooth connectivity.

So bummed I am bummed on a new car purchase already. It's been 2 hrs. Lol.

IIRC correctly, the stock CX5 didn't have it either.

It's a ploy for you to buy shit you don't really want.

Bummed that you feel like I did when the ABS on my F800ST sucked so much I traded it in with a big loss to get a hard to find one without ABS.

Good news, maybe, is that used car prices are still reasonably high so maybe sell on the private market or at least give that a whirl?

Some bachelor or single lady might not GAF for that feature.

That feature booted out a lot of contenders when my wife got her 2019 CX5 GTR Turbo.

It's a must have in my view when a car is shared.

My wife simply referred to the lack of this feature as a deal-breaker. Seat memory and heating elements. We live in San Diego. Ok honey!

Update:

New 23 NX350h picked up today. Nori green, base model.

Stoked, except had the first disappointment today at pickup going over all the tech with the tech expert....

Lexus, why the hell did you decide not to put 2 user memory seat controls onto a $45k car in 2023?!?!

Our 2004 Lexus gx470 has them for chrissakes!!!

Bummed, but should have asked earlier, but wtf?!?

$45K for an SUV (especially a luxury one) isn't really expensive in today's market, honestly. My Explorer cost more than that...but came with two driver memory presets. :later

:laughing

Been looking for small to mid size AWD. Pretty sure it's going to be a Toyota of some type.

I'm not a fan of anything Toyota makes, really. To include the Lexus division...sorry August. :laughing

As a competitor to the Rav4, and certainly with much better fit and finish, I'd suggest the Volvo XC40 which has a full electric option in addition to the gas model. The XC60 has a hybrid version too.

Toyota doesn't make the sexiest vehicles, but they do make vehicles that last a very long time. I just worked on a 100k Matrix and was amazed at what good shape it was in. Checked brakes, tie rods, etc., and they looked and felt like 25k miles.

For basically the last 10-15 years, literally everyone has made vehicles that last a long time presuming you actually follow the maintenance schedule and don't abuse it. I think what you're getting at is that Toyota doesn't make the sexiest vehicles (and I don't necessarily agree with that...), but they make vehicles that last a long time because they're built for people that ignore scheduled maintenance and services. That I'd definitely agree with.

While I do agree, largely, with what you say, from experience it's not necessarily the case. I just replaced a water manifold on my turbo Sonic. It's a known problem, built of plastic. My Sonic had 35k on it. The manifold is right next to the turbo, gets hot as hell, and warps. There are aftermarket replacements made of aluminum, which is what I installed.

On the other hand, the company has four 4wd trucks, and the GM and Fords just keep going. The POS Dodge motor lasted 99k. The Ford I bought in 2013, used, is at 170k now and just keeps purring along.

Volvo values sink faster than Twitter's reputation. :laughing

Buying used is the way to get a Volvo.

For probably 99.9% of new auto sales, there's no such thing as a non-depreciating new vehicle sale. I'd posit that buying a vehicle with concern towards resale is really foolish to begin with. You're likely financing way too much.

Rav 4, they have a hybrid and a plug in hybrid in addition to the gasser.

Glowing review from Alex on Autos.

IMHO the styling is much better than many Toyotas, but for that price, I would get a Model Y, because I would cross shop BEVs and PHEVs.

So if you have to leave the house tomorrow what are you driving?

I'm 66 and started driving at age 18.

I've owned exactly 3 personal cars and likely won't buy another as I am very happy with car number 3.

When we bought my wife's CX5 GTR Turbo in 2019 I drove her car across the Country to give to my brother who was driving a beater.

But for most depreciation and resale is a factor worth considering as clearly my wife and I are outliers.

My wife did own two Saabs mind you! :laughing

Basic transportation, even luxury vehicles, are not investment vehicles. The only way you're truly going to lose your shirt is if you overpaid or got into a high-interest and/or longterm loan situation. Literally no one with a modicum of common sense thinks they're going to make a profit when selling a used vehicle or trading it in.

Looked at the GLC300?

It's about reducing loss.
