SCUBA / Diving / Diving license

We got 2 gopros one for me one for Ben. Should be AWESOME. Not sure about sea sickness but will definitely take something the night before and right before.

When I went diving in Monterey I had the overall looking wet suit that was sleeve less AND the long sleeve/shorts to go on top. They were both 7mm so my core was actually at 14. I will probably be wearing a 7mm wetsuit Im guessing. Im renting from the boat so I dont know what the options are.

Wasnt really all that annoying but Im sure it would feel awesome to be a bit more "free"

Channel Islands have much warmer water than Monterey. I was certified in Monterey and then moved to Santa Barbara, and never felt cold. Even on 80' dives. Lots more stuff to see and the visibility is much better. You will love it!

Yea my husband said Ill have a much better time. When I got certified in Monterey it just so happen that my class was so small, there was 3 of us (students) my instructor and an instructor in training. So we had 2 pros for the 3 of us. We got through all of our drills so quickly that we spent our last dive actually exploring. The viz was bad the first day. It was a bit better the second day. When I say a bit better I couldnt see past 10ft :p

He said the viz alone is going to be SO much better that Monterey. So im stoked. :)

Diving with a wetsuit isn't so bad. If your drysuit doesn't fit right it can be very uncomfortable and if you spring a leak you don't have long before you can get hypothermic.

Where in the Philippines did you dive? The corals seemed a little silty and the visibility didn't seem as good as it usually is, although the visibility in Coron kind of sucked (~50 feet) when I dove there. Boracay was well over 100' vis.

Dude I just had the most amazing diving experience in the Philippines. Kind of opposite from what you just said though, the dive site I went to in Boracay didn't have great visibility, and I pretty much got attacked by jellyfish. :laughing Visibility in Coron was about 100', I guess it all just depends on the day and the luck of the draw.

Did two dives in Coron and had an amazing time, despite the fact that I forgot to get dive weights. First dive was a shipwreck dive, and since we couldn't maintain neutral buoyancy, we just hung on to the side of the ship and made our way down.

Second dive, I ditched the wetsuit and threw a bunch of rocks in my BC. :rofl Saw a lot of amazing coral and plenty of fish. I haven't been on many dives, but this is going to be a tough one to top.

Im thinking about buying a diving knife. Any recommendations? Thinking one that is either wrapped around my thigh or my calf.

I also will have the opportunity to do a night dive. Whats a decent and reasonable priced light? I think I can rent from the boat which i will probably end up doing. Im just curious.

Get a titanium one.

I did 7 dives in Boracay, all of them fantastic! I didn't see a single jellyfish and visibility was as good as it gets. Diving in Cebu was pretty good too but not as good as Boracay. Even though vis was not fantastic in Coron, I still got in some amazing wreck dives. You could see a hole in the deck and sides bulging out of one ship that was hit by a 500 lbs bomb from an American dive bomber. I'll go back again for more dives because I was unable to dive on the last day in Coron due to not being able to clear when descending. I could only get about 8 feet under water before it caused extreme pain in my ears. :(

Diving knives are inexpensive $50 titanium and you're set.

Dive Torches (light) are EXTREMELY expensive. Decent and moderately priced light = $300.

Ohhh, never have done a night dive, sounds awsome! How about some Lobster!

And, a woman with a diving knife strapped to her thigh...:drool

They are doing spear fishing on the boat too. I dont have a fishing license. Still deciding if I want to do that.

As for the night dive. Since we arent going back into the harbor on Saturday and going to the outer channel islands we have an option to do a night dive.

Titanium. got it. Ill probably go in diver dans and see what they offer.

Il'l be out at Breakwater this weekend assisting in another OW Course if anyone wants to join me for some night diving in the evenings.

Here's a few pics I took during my recent trip to the PI.

Finally getting 80% of my diving gear tomorrow. Only thing Ill still have to rent is a wetsuit and a tank. Other than that I got everything. :banana

So when we doing a BARF diving trip? I got one coming up in April but wondering after that? Like June?

Let's just make it easy and go to Point Lobos and do 3 dives to different pinnacles.

Dima, Mark, and I are usually always down to go whatever weekend if we're not out there already. So if you can gather 2-3 other people, we're sorted.

For Point Lobos we'll have to register in advance and just hope the ocean is happy that day. Diving Point Lobos when the surge is up is fun, but can be nerve racking for newer divers.

It would be Ben and I dont really know anyone else we know that dives.

That's fine, that makes 5. Split up in 2 teams and we're golden. When's your trip to the Channel Islands?

I was about to go and sign up for an open water, and I was robbed at gunpoint :mad

Most of my leisure money is gone. Anyway, I am saving for one course. Hopefully I can go with you guys.

Talk to Any Water Sports in Saratoga, they'll help you out. Reasonably priced, and I can vouch for all of their instructors.

I bought a few more tanks than I need, and have had them all tested by the SCUBA folks at SportsChalet.

If anyone needs one or two, hit me up. :thumbup
