SHOEI RF-1000 VS. RF-1100 Sizing!

Cool, congratulations :) I would recommend trying to find a Suomy or other brand in XS to try on for sure. Otherwise, what you think might fit, may not when you get it, then you're stuck with it.

Out of curiosity, where did you go to try on these helmets?

I went to Cycle Gear! Largest selection I've seen from stores but the only x-smalls they had were the RF1100s

I definitely wouldn't order any helmet unless you've tried it on and are sure about the size. Keep looking.

Exactly. Here's an example, I wear a large in Shoei. If I were an unsuspecting person, I'd assume I was a large Arai as well, but I would be wrong. I am a medium in Arai. And just to make sure I wasn't crazy, I tried a medium Shoei (too small) and a large Arai (too big). So you can't assume that just because the XS of all brands technically fit your head they will all fit the same around your face...they definitely won't. And that would be a very expensive mistake to make, even for a moderately priced helmet.

If you want to be fitted properly, and you don't mind traveling a little ways to do it, stop by CalBMW and talk to Dan Butler. He's fitted a lot of gear for myself and my friends, and if you listen to him, you're guarenteed to walk out with a correct fitting helmet.

Personally, I would *never* order a helmet online unless I did a huge amount of research, and they had an extremely good return policy. Fit is so critical with a helmet, that I wouldn't want to risk getting the wrong size.

This is generally the case for any gear I buy, but some stuff is easier to fit than others.

Yeahh I know that's what every one keeps telling me but there are not many bike shops around, Cycle Gear and Road Riders in SJ don't have x-smalls..

Ahh! I wish someone just had the xmsmall helmets for me to try on!

I guess it's time to hit up some other shops further north.

Figure out what you want and have the shop order it in for you. If you like it, buy it.

If you are still looking for a helmet you can also try Road Rider. Here's a link for their store.

I've only been there are few times, but they seemed to have a pretty large selection of helmets.

:dunno Reading comprehension? JK :twofinger

FYI, not all Cycle Gear locations stock Suomy (San Jose and SF have a small selection) but if you ask, I'm sure they can transfer one from another location. Motostrano in Redwood City carries them also. As someone mentioned earlier, CalMoto is a good spot also. Hitman Dan is a great guy there.

This is not what brick and mortar shops are for...I support local shops because things like gear I want to try it on. When they don't have what I need I go somewhere else.

Can she ask CG to order an xs of each brand? Seems like that is what she needs...

jesus christ if it wasnt for your pic in your avatar nobody would be on this thread.... get the rf-1100 already, like i said the snell 2010 rating means alot.

also im surprised nobody told you can buy different size pads and fit them in different sized helmets, for example buy the rf-1100 in small, then swap pads for xs pads or vice versa, buy the rf-1100 in xs and swap the pads to small.......

obviously do not buy the helmet without informing the store you want to swap out the pads for a better fit before they make you buy the additional pad set

I've wondered a couple times if some of these "noob chicks with "actual" faceshots for avatars" aren't some bored troll.

If it makes you feel better, there are plenty of attractive newbies on bikes. And yes, girl riders do get lots of attention. Take Ballet and you'll find that it works both ways. :)

Somebody did! :p

The shells are the same size, only the padding is different. If the OP really likes that design, and the helmet is too tight, replacing one or two sets of pads would probably do the trick.

Hah! I know there are. I have one of my own, with her own Ninjette. :thumbup

:rofl Hah! I couldn't care less whether you're real or not. Simmer down. I was commenting on FXCLM5's post and all the thinly veiled leg-humping errr "assistance" that the ladiez get when they use a pic as their avatar. There are apparently a lot of seriously pent-up dudes on here.

Please don't tell me to "Simmer down" when you don't know how irritating it is while all anyone in any thread ever mentions is about my avatar. Anyway, no more worries for that now. Because I put my picture down, I won't be getting anymore "assistance", right? :)
