Slow riding practice tips?

There's often a benefit to the ecosystem with even the lowest of critters, and this is the sort of thing that makes me appreciate PLP-Guy.

+1

Kinda like in the book "A prayer for Owen Meany", except in THIS case, one day Barf will suddenly need a guy who can do hours of figure 8's on a dirtbike and.........BAM beginner will step in and save the day! :thumbup

:facepalm

Really? Really??? :|
OK, let's play that game.

Warnings from Mods:
Beginner: At least 6 off the top of my head that I've seen posted... unknown how many by PM... (480 posts)
Gixxergirl1000: None (15,745 posts)

Suspensions:
Beginner: 1 for sure that I know of
Gixxergirl1000: None.

Maybe YOU'RE the one who needs a refresher course in the TOS... :laughing

Your theory blows chunks. I've been riding just the Gixxer alone for over 4 years, and have put about 40,000 miles on it (NOT in parking lots... I've done ONE DAY of parking lot practice... and most of that was spent doing hot laps around the perimeter on Ogg's DRZ... :teeth)... and let's not forget the previous bikes I owned... easily putting my total mileage at over 100,000 with no crashes whatsoever, and 2 drops- both at a complete stop- 1 from coolant or oil when I put my foot down & it slipped out, and one because my bad hip gave out as I put my foot down. You've got both crashes AND drops, totalling EIGHT.
Correction, it's well over 3 dozen from the least to the more serious, mostly on dirt. Dirt bike: a thing you drop. Practice drops are inevitable too. At slow speed bad consequences are unlikely. Still, in three years I've collected two bruised ribs, a bruised foot and a miscelaneous collection of minor road rashes. If PLP was optional why is there so much emphasis on motor police skills and why do they work on it in PLP? Outside of competitions motor police are the most poised and polished riders in North America. My terrain is different but I want the same thing and the skills it reflects. Why not?

You've dropped your bike over 3 dozen times?! :rofl Seriously man, I think it's time to pick up a different hobby. You keep bringing up the fact that LEO's practice these maneuvers, yes LEO's are required to practice "PLP", because they need to actually apply those skills to their everyday job. You've been "practicing" for 3 years now, what the hell are you "practicing" for?

95% of soups are not chunky.

That's not true at all, but I'm pretty sure that's true.

24hrs a day * 365 days = 8760 hours in a year. I eat soup 500 hours a year, so I spend roughly 5.7% of my year eating soups

OMG, IT'S HAPPENING

Oh, glorious day!

I never thought that they would all show up, I almost gave up hope.

Dude

- The post of mine you quoted was in no way a personal attack, and didn't even come close to TOS. You have an exaggerated sense of your importance and a tender butt

looking over past threads, don't be too surprised:

While physics are constant, it is your understanding of them that is weak. You are making assumptions based on your limited knowledge. You have just enough information to be dangerous.

Calling me weak, limited, and dangerous are personal attacks.

At Last, something of value....I got a laugh on this post, after a sea of :rolleyes
posts.

I'm here for you buddy.

But like the old sayin goes,

If a bear shits next to a fallen tree, and no one is there to step in it, is it still valuable?

If PLP was optional why is there so much emphasis on motor police skills and why do they work on it in PLP?

Cuz 50% of crime happens in a parking lot?

Or, maybe 50% of criminals use parking lots?

Oh oh, I know, cuz they can't practice on the freeway!!:)

NO dude, just no. No, no, no, no, no. You do NOT get to do that. If you really want to try that shit, be prepared to cite EVERY SINGLE NON-PARKING LOT CRASH THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED AND SHOW HOW AD-NAUSEUM FIGURE-8S WOULD HAVE HELPED THEM. You're stepping up to a whole new game. Whoops, I forgot though that you like to avoid any burden of proof while simultaneously demanding it from others.

Holy crap, I forgot I even offered to pay for his MSF class if he didn't learn from it. Right fracking here
YOU DARE quote me this as violating ToS? I OFFERED TO PAY FOR YOU TO TAKE A CLASS THAT TEACHES EXACTLY WHAT YOU CLAIM TO WANT TO LEARN, AND NOT ONLY CAN YOUR LAZY ASS NOT FIND THE TIME FOR IT, YOU MADE UP EXCUSES IMPUGNING THE INTEGRITY OF VETERAN MSF INSTRUCTORS? AND YOU ACCUSE ME OF BEING DISRESPECTFUL??!?!?

I bite my thumb at you sir and say good day! I SAY GOOD DAY SIR!

What a shocking surprise, another thread from the OP about going slow in parking lots. Yay? The first 20 weren't enough?

Police officers practice these skills because of their job. I agree that a portion of it is to remain safe in normal riding, but you are ignoring the other part: they need to catch and occasionally quickly escape from bad guys. They also spend time driving automobiles in a manner that most of the public does not. I have to wonder if you hold them in equally high regard for their 4-wheel techniques?

Posed and Polished? Really? There is a metric shit-ton of pride involved. Many riders pride themselves on their skills and ability to put the motorcycle exactly where they want it (at higher speeds even). Your location and your desire to remove yourself from human contact limits your perspective. On any given day here in the Bay Area, we can observe 20-200 motorcycles/motorcyclists.

beginner, your desire to improve your skill isn't the issue with your threads here on BARF. Your inaccurate assumptions of their importance to actual street riding is the issue. Many techniques used in your parking lot riding do transfer over to the street, but not all of them.

Let me blow your mind a bit:
I know of a few Motor Officers that have crashed hard due to their lack of judgment and skill. I know more than a few Motor Officers that are sub-standard street riders. While on duty, their focus when riding is very different than that of an average rider. They are damn good at their job (enforcement), not so good at actual riding. SilverSVS and his Team are a notable exception, as are the Officers that have gravitated to BARF. There is so much more to riding skill than that demonstrated by motor officers. Some officers only know what they were taught at motor school and don't ride off duty, or even seek out additional training.

I'll make you a deal, If you stop drawing wild ass assumptions of street riding based on your plp, and I'll stop pointing out the errors in your assumptions. The ball is in your court.

If what I'm talking about is so dorky and dumb why not go away?

I wouldn't say that it's dorky and dumb. I would say that it's myopic, pointless, bizarre, and indicative of an obsessive and possibly demented attention to trivial things. Do keep developing this character you're working out.

Practice for the same reason as any other sports like activity. Skill for it's own sake. Maybe more skill improves safety, maybe not. I'll take the risks of having skill over the risk of not having it. In the mean time, it's fun.

A discussion about PLP should be a harmless thing since practically nobody does it. Why all the attention from people who aren't interested?

Riding is riding. It's irrelevent what outfit the rider is wearing. Motor police are better riders if they practice. Civilians are better riders if they practice. If you don't want to do PLP okay, alright.

Think you're up to par on the brakes? Try that bucket stop exercise. If you can't do it there may be room for improvement. If you don't agree or don't care, fine, okay, alright.
