Smoking Doesn't Affect Anyone Else...

It has changed in Tokyo.

The first time I went in 2003, people were smoking everywhere, but they had just banned smoking on the train platforms.

When I was there this last summer, you couldn't even smoke on the street anymore. They had big adds about not walking around and smoking.

yeah they have little smoking areas everywhere....and the signs on the ashtrays are hilarious:laughing

edit: found them right here

They should do the same for every product found frequently on the side of the road and see how all of you anti-smoking nuts feel about that.

Charge extra $.25 for every plastic or paper bag handed out at any retail store.

I'd be fine with that.
Oh wait, didn't SF Mayor and supervisors already try to pass that sensible charge?? Oh wait, it got defeated for some reason.. :? Instead they had to ban the plastic bags.

That would be FANTASTIC!
Now how do we get this passed?

GOD DAMNIT I THROW MY CIGARETTE BUTS AWAY!
SAN FRAN SUCKS ANYWAYS!

I find the smokers' indignation worthy of lulz.

It doesn't matter if you personally take care of the butts, if the rest of the smoking community throws the cigarette butts away.

Seriously. It's not fair for the smokers who throw their butts away to pay the tax, but it's fair for those that don't smoke at all to pick up the tab for the clean-up?

Sure, a perfect system would just have each person who drops a cigarette butt on the floor pay an automatic $50 fine, but in the scheme of things, what is more appropriate, for smokers to pay for cigarette clean up or for non-smokers?

I never throw butts on the ground, or in public trash cans for that matter.
Just trying to be invisable.

I always feel like boiling my shoes when I get back from San Fransisco.

Frankly, I'd rather walk on cigarette butts than shit.
