So, Dave Ramsey....on car buying....

Most, if not all of you, are bosses of buying used cars, but I tried briefly looking for "that typical 2-3 year old BMW or Merc C-class" and was disappointed at the prices not being so low anyway. :thumbdown

that "6k depreciation as soon as it leaves the lot" yadda yadda , in my mind, most of the vehicles were like 2-3 years old USED and ONLY 2-3k off a brand new one. YMMV
Just saying for some reason I wasn't able to buy that.

(but pl no examples today, I don't need to buy today)

So for you it's not about fairness, it's about you getting extra money.

.

It should never be about fairness. It should be about fixing the harms from government involvement and protecting our economy.

If banks are too big to fail, shouldn't the masses be as well?

43M American's have student loans
@100M people that "could" have drawn student loans during this predatory period (age 25-50)

Fairness is that we all have a chance to compete with the same set of rules.

Fairness does not mean some sort of evening out shit where people who are less likely to win have an easier time with not winning.

This seems to be a rational position.

Fairness? :laughing

I'd like to dunk a basketball like LeBron James, but I can't so NOT FAIR!
I should get $85 million like he does... for you know, fairness.

Fairness.

Sure, I would like things to be more fair, but I don’t think the government paying off 100% of all student loans is fair. (Unless they compensate everyone else).

Do you believe everyone gets to compete under the same set of rules? We sure as shit don't start with the same pieces.

Take 100 "missing the point" points. You jumped into the middle of an exchange you clearly don't understand.

Yes, the laws are the same these days. Life is a competition with winners and losers. Do not get confused and think we are all entitled to an equal amount of success or ability to continue to survive.

Life is intended to be a high pressure, ruthless competition for power and resources. It is through this that we ensure the survival of the fittest and improve future generations.

Unless you're looking at a 7 series, BMWs aren't going to depreciate in 2-3 years to the extent some people here are getting at. Of course this is only 1 automaker of many

Agreed. I bought a 550i a few years ago for $16k. It was originally a $60k car, but was maybe 6-7 years old. And if you want to go down that route, you should know how to wrench and have the tools needed for German cars.

But sadly we all start at different points. That’s what equality is supposed to address...

So the person who started at -100 and made it to 10 is “worth” more but civilization doesn’t reward him the same as the person who started at 100 and made it to 110

I agree with Dave. I wonder how many people have a $1M net worth.

What sort of car is he okaying for the these borderline millionaires.
Your bare bones A to B 20K car or something with some bling.

Around here in the Bay Area? There’s an absolute excess of people who are worth that. Homeowners. Factor in their debt (mortgages), and the number drops dramatically.

So does Dave mean an actual million is liquid assets before buying that shiny new car?

Sure, and that is the problem with too much power. You create large systems (Government) and the powerful use them to consolidate and sustain their power indefinitely. Clearly the guy with the ability to move 110 points is the superior being. That should be the guy getting influence and rewards. You do that with two things, adjusting your starting point and reducing the ability of others to benefit from the powerful. Get everyone closer to starting at 50.

You need a system that keeps the bottom feeders miserable though, so they are motivated to compete, slash and burn their way to the top.

Is this Sparta or not?

It is. People just can't face that fact.

My hope is that I'll do enough so that my children get to start at 50 or more.

I wouldn’t say we’re Sparta

We don’t have conscription until 60 and we have global economic trade.

I do agree that you need to succeed on your own merits. I disagree that I should have fiscal bearing on my children’s success.

I want every child to start at approx the same playing field and let their ambition and drive motivate their successes.

How we get to a balanced start, I don’t have a fucking clue but it probably begins with getting government out of it.

Sadly, no, you probably start by getting Government into it. Liquidate a couple's estate when they die, use the wealth to fund the social programs that elevate that baseline. Education, Healthcare, Election reform, Justice system reform, the tools societies lowest rung needs to compete to the best of their own personal potential. Liquidate it all once the people who accumulate don't need it any more.

You break up the established patriarchy this way, recapture your national wealth to reinvest into your future generations, and better realize the potential in your natural home grown Human Resources.

Well, if it was me I would also have a 2 year Mandatory Military service like Switzerland and South Korea...
