So, Dave Ramsey....on car buying....

You freely admit who his target audience is, and his advice is tough love reality for that crowd. So why do you keep hating on him just because his advice doesn't apply to you or Jeff Bezos? I don't think he claims his strategy is one size fits all.

I hate on home because of his stupid ass beliefs. Firing people that worked for them because they dared to have sex before marriage? Supreme bullshit.

Pretty sure he got to test drive a Corvette before handing over the check and signing the purchase contract.

25% of Americans think the sun orbits the Earth. Just sayin'.

Don’t get why those old guys want Corvettes. Awesome car but get something easier on their artificial hips and knees to get in and out of.

That's is a neat museum. Pretty expensive to get in but luckily I think it was 50% for veterans/military.

I have a lifetime membership. Dave would not have approved of what that cost. Especially since I’ve never been to it.

God Bless America, where someone can have a different belief system than you and we can all carry on in harmony...

Dear God. Citation?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-intellectualism

About 25% of 2,200 Americans surveyed believe in a geocentric solar system (that the sun orbits the earth),[33] and in 2014 35% of Americans could not name any branch of the U.S. government.[34] The U.S. is ranked 52nd out of 139 nations in quality of educational instruction and 12th in the number of university-educated adults.[35] At universities, student anti-intellectualism has resulted in the social acceptability of cheating on schoolwork, especially in the business schools, a manifestation of ethically expedient cognitive dissonance rather than of academic critical thinking.[36]

Tell that to those who work(ed) for Dave.

Simple. A lot of dudes always wanted a car like that but could never afford them until later in life. I have a lot more respect for that situation than someone going balls deep in debt to get one in their 20s or 30s. (Having been the poster child for the latter in years past. :laughing )

Ramsey also says you shouldn't spend more than 25% net pay on a mortgage, including taxes and insurance. Let's get the forum all in a buzz on that one.

Thats great fucking advice. Im really going to enjoy spending 2+hrs commuting each way :rolleyes

When I was renting my own rule was to not spend more than 3.5 days pay on rent. That was tough to satisfy in the BA.

You have to look at when boomers were coming-of-age. After leveraging future generations with debt, they now have the money to buy their "dream" cars from their youth.

Just think of how much more you’ll enjoy that long drive in that cheap used car you have to have also following Dave’s advice.

When my dad went through his mid life crisis at 40 and flipped the switch from having Dave Ramsey approved rather unremarkable cars to proper cars? YeH it was tunnel vision for a brand new 1989 Corvette. Why? It was attainable, and in his youth he remembered all the astronauts drove Corvettes. And who growing up in the space race era didn’t idolize the astronauts? So of course the Corvette was the coolest car ever for him.

I did the responsible thing and put my Range Rover on a credit card :laughing

[*Dave Ramsey strokes out from the other side of the country*]

My dad's "mid life crisis" was having the blown engine rebuilt in his Supra, which he'd already owned. Not buying a new fancy shmancy whatever on the car lot.

Not sure where that fits in with Mr. Ramsey's advice.
