Someone explain Britney Spear's conservatorship deal!

Not a simple case. When she was divorcing her dirtbag husband back when, he was awarded custody of the children. This was around the time the conservatorship came into being.
In CA women almost never lose custody. So there is clearly something wrong with her. :wow
She has not regained even partial custody AFAIK.

She has a new boyfriend. I would say he is driving all this. The $$$$$$ ya know.

Unfortunately, judges will take a quack psychologist at their word, it's just the way our court system is set up, everybody with an official title is granted full accord, as if their word is the gospel.

While I certainly understand what a conundrum this is, isn't the alternative that the judge is somehow an expert in all sorts of areas (not just psychology, but anything else from cooking to software to welding etc.). In the end it's the role of the judge to adjudicate the proceeding, and up to the people in front of the court to prosecute their case, including bringing out witnesses to the quackery of the other side.

Having "expert judges" seems unrealistic to me, and maybe not really a good idea in the large anyway.

Judges tend to be more fucked up, on average, than the general population. It must be the impact of having absolute power in the court room that makes them think they are little dictators.

George Carlin once said, "Somewhere out there is the worst doctor in the world... and somebody has an appointment with him!" That always put the doctor credential/authority thing into question for me from a young age.

Regardless of whether or not you care about Brittney Spears as a celebrity, its pretty alarming that a Judge can deny what is essentially your personhood and your autonomy based on a mental health crisis.

It's sort of a real life version of Lisbeth Salander from Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

Yup. The American mental health system and court system are big buck business. Everyday ordinary people get railroaded, and you really, truly, don't want to get 5150'ed. It's better that it used to be, but once you're under court or conservator control, your basic human rights and choices pretty much disappear.

I knew a guy that this happened to. It wasn't cute. It was horrible. His dad decided that he wasn't capable and got him committed, where he was forced to undergo shock therapy and involuntary drug therapy. He never really fully got over it, and hated his dad forever after that. Google: "Dick Price, Esalen."

Amazing the courts can just give legal conservatorship to someone you don't want...
This is just a thoroughly fucked up version of what some kids do to their elderly parents, get power of attorney over their estate and clean it out.

It's always about greed and control, untalented people trying to live off of the talents of others, but usually it's the managers and not the parent. Maybe now with a big bright flashlight being shined on the judges actions, the shit will stop.

Yeah, I found out years ago during a child custody battle that a ton of people make $$$$$ by being associated with the courts and cases, it's one giant circle jerk with them all feeding off of the poor people who are stuck in the court system. They're just a bunch of blood sucking parasites.

Watched this over the weekend:

Fun movie. Not so much for folks like Brit.

Good call Shannon. "I Care A lot" was a great watch. You really start to hate her half way through!

I usually give less than a shit about pop stars but the Brittny story is way bigger than a pop star having a melt down. As mentioned it highlights our broken court and mental health systems.

Dude, the glee she and her assistant showed while bilking people in the opening scenes pegged my hate-o-meter to 11. It was no surprise to me that she and the mob hooked up. The fact that she wasn't from the get go caused me to think, "It's just a movie."

I thought it was a shit movie. It couldn't decide what it wanted to be, the writing was terrible, it wasn't visually interesting, wasn't well acted. It had an interesting premise though :dunno

Apparently an IUD was inserted :wtf and she wants it removed.

Yeah, I had to say "It's just a movie" way too many times while watching it.

Brit probably needs to have some form of financial conservatorship in place. She has been treated like a coddled superstar for so long I doubt she has the knowledge and skills required to manage her finances or if she even wants to at this point. She needs to have her personhood restored and her financial conservatorship should be handled by a fiduciarily responsible/bound organization. An organization with the sole concern of managing what she has and not promoting any potential future earnings. Let her decide if she wants to continue to pursue superstardom.

Yeah, every aspect of her life has been curated since she was like 16. Probably earlier.

She's being treated as property.

And near incarceration. I'm shocked that she's so tightly controlled and unable to take control of her own finances/ life. The lesson here is not to get in a position where someone else is in control of your life choices.

Which we agree is probably REALLLLLY fucking hard to do when you are a child star right?
