I've been known to stare at a pretty equation now and then. But a nice hot formula just drives me CRAZY.


I've enjoyed this thread:

Imagine a computer controlled car with a 4-cylinder gasoline engine and 6-speed transmission. The car will be drag-raced different distances: 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile and 1 mile, completely computer controlled, no driver to screw things up.

The only modifications that can be made between races is gearing and shift points. You're job is to calculate the optimum gearing and computer-controlled shift points for each race using the torque and horse-power plots.

If your calculations prove to get the car down the track with the quickest times you win.
