This sounds sick, what's the latest someone can sign up? I think I might have finals that week :rolleyes

No real sign up.
Make it if and when you can.
Someone will volunteer to get the $20 fee at the site and get it back to Butch... unless, of course he makes it to this one.:cool

As if this winter could be any better or worse.. Grindstone district just extended the Stonyford trail closure through Jun 1st :(

As of March 3, 2023 and continuing through June 1, 2023, all OHV trails on the Grindstone Ranger District are closed to provide for public safety per Forest Order 08-23-03. A map of the trail closures is available.

This could have a very negative impact on the Sheetiron 300 too. :nchantr

thanks for the notice Mr Cabrito … :angel

can’t figure out what the yellow means on the map? will the road to North Fork campground/Mt St John/Diamond Ridge be closed in May, I wonder?

the SI route through Young’s Corral Springs on Saturday, May 20th, to French Ridge certainly looks closed. closures may be why we have not seen an OMC SI 300 announcement for 2023, yet?

My interpretation is that only the trails are closed, but fire roads should be open?

:thumbup

didn’t notice till just now, but M-10 is marked closed on the map. wow.

so for the SI that would be Bartlett Springs or Mendo Pass to get to Ft Bragg? gonna be interesting.

Definitely on my calendar. I'll tell Jen. Wonder if come May we should still figure out how to pack a cutie chainsaw on the bike. . .

This is in my back pack at all times.
I have cut some pretty sizable trees out of the trail.

Same here and it came in handy on the last StonyBarf

Demonstrating just how big the saw is compared to the tree :cool

You just never know when you need to cut a tree from the trail or road

I recently acquired one of these beauties myself after deciding my Agawas weren't quick-draw enough. Love it!

The Silky fold out saw is the shiznit! :thumbup If folks are riding up north, it's almost a necessity the past few seasons.

I've rolled my eyes more than once when folks pulled it our of their packs thinking it would take forever to cut through some larger downed trees... only to be amazed at how fast it cuts.

Don't know what it is about it's saw tooth design, but its clearly superior to any hand saw I've seen.

What brand were those rubber straps you were using last work day up at Penny? Were they the Titan brand? I need to grab a couple, look uber useful. :thumbup

Dude... if in your truck, you should have a chainsaw. Reach out to me, I have a 45cc Poulan with a case that was gifted to me from a Brap Pack member. I got it running last year, but may need a carb clean again this season (which I'd be happy to do again.) If you were to commit to a few work days clearing trails, I'd be happy to regift to you.

That's awesome. I totally want to get out on some work days clearing trails.

I did recently get a HarborJunk saw that works pretty good. One battery got this done.

Hah, yes, they are Titan Straps. I "just happened" to bring them along to replace the lower nylon straps of my Mosko harness, but got lazy - how serendipitous!

I was pleasantly surprised to see the the hardware store across from work had several different sizes of the Titans in stock. I also have a full set of the Sea to Summit ones, and they've been pretty great as well.

Nice! Those e-saws work great for smaller projects just like that. :thumbup

Sweet! Giant Loop gets well over $30 for just one of their large Pronghorn straps... the Titan Industrials are less than that for a pair.

Want to use them to attach my Giant Loop Rogue dry bag to either my Mojavi or Great Basin bags. Currently using the thickest/largest Rok Strap, but it allows too much stretch. The dry bag will bounce a bit in the sand whoops or rocks at speed on the back of the FE350s with the Rok Straps.

Perhaps I am overthinking this, been guilty before. But kinda want to the metal buckle that comes on the Pronghorn strap, or the Titan Industrial to hold up to such abuse on our Mojave and Baja trips. 1000 miles of offroad over 10 days. Maybe the plastic buckle Voile or Sea to Summit would. :dunno

They are even cheaper than the Titans. Thanks for the heads up on the Titan Straps. They look like the real deal, and a great price!

Looking forward to some more trail days once the snow recedes. :thumbup

I remember seeing your dry bag in Baja moving around a lot, but I figured you had it under control :). This is why I don't use the big rokstraps unless I have a larger load like securing two duffels or if it's not going to be as harsh of a ride. They stretch too much and don't get tight. The small rokstraps do much better and you can really secure your gear. I do worry about breaking a buckle so sometimes I double them up. Using two sets of straps gives me the ability to loosen the second set when I want to strap my jacket on top of the gear without loosening the main load. I always bring spares just in case. I also use the Voile (Similar to Titans) a lot. My worry with them is extended exposure to sun breaking them down. I have some thick ones that were on my trailer and they seemed to harden a little and get brittle. Just keep an eye on them.

I did the Mosko Hack with the rubber straps too, but always have spares on hand just in case :thumbup

Skinny rokstraps - This was my Baja setup this year.

Happy riding!

I use the skinny roc straps and they are great. They kept my dry bag firmly attached to the bike even when I wasn't. The saddle bags flap around a bit when things get spicy, but not enough to be a problem.
