Storm, Atmospheric river, latest update

How we spent our Bomb Cyclone '24
We drove from SF to Richmond around 4:30 yesterday. I thought my rocket box might tear off my roof rack. It was windy AF on the Richmond Bridge. Lost power for a few hours at the house in Richmond as dinner was being prepared. Took the Bay Bridge home around 9p and it was still pretty windy but manageable.

On our dog walk before heading to the East Bay we saw some carnage.. Speaking of trees killing people..
We realized after we crossed under this fallen solder that we could have been hurt or killed, and then during another big gust of wind Mrs Cabrito started running to get out of the trees when we heard some branches cracking..

We questioned our decision to walk through this grove of trees in GG park and then saw one across Fulton Street..

2.75" of rain past 24 hours.

Wind knocked down part of my daughter's fence and redwood limbs damaged the plastic "roof" on her trellis.

As the landlord I will be paying some small bills so pretty lucky that things weren't worse.

Santa Cruz pic is nuts. Looks like it's a bedroom too.

Last night the wind was like, "oh you thought you were going to feel safe tonight??". Shit was howling.

Can't believe we never lost power. That's 100% due to the work PGE has done out here the last year.

Spent the night pumping boats and surviving crisis. The floating home community got hammered.

Some crazy stuff G. That sounds like a shitty night.

This does not bode well for HWY repairs.

To the south, Santa Cruz and Monterey counties received heavier rain than the Bay Area, as expected. Locations across the Santa Cruz Mountains recorded 3.5 to 5.5 inches while Mining Ridge in the Santa Lucia Mountains along the Big Sur Coast measured 9.22 inches.

Had steady but mild rain Saturday night into Sunday morning. It was mostly clear in the afternoon when winds really picked up. Had gusts to 50-60mph. Lost power for 2.5 hours which is very rare here in buried power line suburbia. I have a small yard but there were still hundreds of branches and twigs on the ground. No damage to anything. Feel very fortunate considering so many others suffered downed trees and longer power outages.

The NFL fan in me says better yesterday than next Sunday.

Coyote Point Park/Marina open again after closure last night. Fallen trees...again (see above, last March). Could close again due to danger of soggy soil and top heavy eucalyptus.

121 East of the corner in Carneros was closed. Assumed flooding.
Encountered a Road Closed sign after turning off I-5 at Blue Gum Rd. exit. Don't know if it was the roller coasters on Ord Ferry or ???

When I see photo like the one Cheeze posted I am thankful that we have a finished basement, which is where we sleep last night. The wind sounded like a freight train.

Ended up walking to meet a friend for drinks and a show in North Beach, maybe not the best weather for a walk with all the swaying trees. Didn't get squished thankfully and the show was decent.

Wow.

SLO be hammered.

I had to go to a job site today for one of my projects.
How do you build it this shit when it is raining inside as hard as outside?

Just getting inside was a slog. :laughing

Looks like a pain, Budman, but at least there isn't snow, ice and sub-freezing temps to deal with...I put myself through school doing construction, spent plenty of weekends inside unheated buildings bundled up while working. Funny how many more ailments you feel when it's cold as hell where you're working for 10-12 hours.

That looks like a mess. I'm guess you wait for it to dry out?

Waiting on the outside stuff a bit, but they are going inside. The roof is open because they are adding plywood, insulation and a new roof. This is an old ass building like I have never seen before. 4" concrete panels...tiny foundation :wtf

A full structural upgrade is fixing it.

10-12 hrs a day is not easy... heck construction is not easy. Mucho respect for the trades working it. Amazing at times.

The Construction manager made fun of me for wearing vans. He said "Where you going after this.. the Beach?" :laughing

Great dude. Known him since he was wearing a belt doing concrete. 40 years now. He rides too. :cool
