Stranger Things Season 4

are we gonna talk spoilers? in white:

I think that 0011 accidentally opens a rift into the upside down while frying 0001 to bits. 0001 becomes trapped in the UD but finds a way to start influencing the normal world through these rifts. There was some talk about 0001/Vecna being a field general...to whom? Maybe that creature showed 0001/Vecna the way?

did I get that right?

More white text

They really got me good with the big reveal. I don't think I would have figured it out but usually with movies and shows, I would have picked up more clues before having to be told flat out.

Just with the clock and the whole house itself, I didn't give it a 2nd thought outside of knowing the house is where this all started (at least that everyone was aware of) so it was an easy choice for Vecna's hiding spot. Also, the first time I saw the house in the upside down, I thought it looked a LOT bigger like a castle. So when they connected the dots and found Vecna staying at the Creel house, I thought he was just being smart and moving around to avoid detection and that was just his current location.

Unless any of you are current or former detectives, I don't think many guessed Henry Creel is 001 and 001 is Vecna. Maybe one or the other but both seemed hard to crack. Maybe some of you are just real smarty pants if you did.

agreed...maybe we need an official spoiler thread lol. I feel the need to work this whole thing out.

we couldn't see it coming because they intentionally mislead us by omitting 001 in all of the flashback sequences leading up to the last episode, making it look like it was all 011's fault. Discerning that it was the son of all people to become 001/Vecna and kill his family was equally obfuscated from us. It was less of a whodunit for me, and more of an intentional act of deceit. But maybe I say that because I can't comprehend how it would be possible to see it coming, haha.

Think a lot of that is going to depend on how many of the tons of new gates open remain open.

That was mostly just Dustin talking but he was comparing Vecna to being a general and Mindflayer being king of it all still. Don't know how right or wrong he was. Vecna may not give a fuck about Mindflayer for all we know.

Also speaking of Vecna, I hope there's a funny scene at a Vecna confrontation and he's like "who the fuck is Vecna?" They only started calling him that because of a vague connection to a boss while playing D&D.

Here's a question of discussion. Every creature in the upside down is connected to the Mindflayer via hivemind right but Vecna is not a typical demon and seems to have his own hivemind but is he also part of Mindflayer's hivemind? If not, then he can do what he wants and if his intentions are similar, that's coincidence.

I also discussed with my roommate about Nancy and how/why she got fast tracked by Vecna to get got. I don't think she was. I think just because we didn't see it on screen, with the visions leading up to death, doesn't mean it didn't happen. They just kept that in their pocket for shock value at the end.

Pretty sure she'll be saved but have a feeling one of the main cast won't make it out of the end of this season.

this was interesting: https://strangerthings.fandom.com/wiki/The_Mind_Flayer

Thats right, the Mind Flayer! Who said , "You let Us in." referring to 011 opening the rift in season 3. I can only assume that first rift that opened with 001 was an accident...perhaps caused by the hatred conjured by 011.

Also, if the Mind Flayer controls the tendrils, and the tendrils connect to Vecna, I would only assume that Vecna and the MF are pretty tight. Whether it be that the MF has enslaved Vecna, if it is a more congenial relationship, or just a relationship of hierarchy is probably not 100% known yet. Vecna doesn't seem to struggle when the tendrils reattach themselves...:dunno

I feel like re-watching season 3 may provide some more clues.

We could make a separate thread if people want. We've got a few weeks til the last 2 episodes.

That's fair. Without taking a wild guess, hard to connect those dots.

However, Just of because of what we know, in hindsight, guessing that the orderly helping 011 in the facility was number 001, that's not much of a stretch. There's enough clues dropped there to deduce that one. I'd call that one a whodunit but Henry Creel is Vecna, yeah, not much we could do about that without being told.

But to that point, that's some serious 3D chess from Papa/The Doctor. He knew if he shows 011 those memories to get her powers back/advance them and remembers she didn't massacre everyone in the facility, 001 did, any trust is gone. But he's right that only she can stop Vecna and she knows it too. Maybe being 'altruistic' in the most sinister way possible.

I probably won't fuck with it until Part II is out, but I am indifferent to spoilers.

You do you. I'm pretty engaged in what-ifs with this, like season 2-4 game of thrones engaged. Not sure if I will care nearly as much after the season is over.

allegory: Stephen King released The Green Mile in 6 novellas. I bought each one as they came out, 1 a month iirc. I think it made the book even more awesome of a mental experience.

typing in white really isn't a bother. like wearing a mask, but in the kitchen sink :laughing

yeah I see that. I could have picked up what the 001orderly was laying down for us to see. Especially when 001orderly said "because he remembered..." whatever, should have been a sign he knew 001young intimately. I missed that.

Oh yeah, Papa is seeing all this too. I believe (?) he is aware of the conversations vs. 001orderly and 011young/old. They will have some things to hash out...

Yeah for sure it looks like Papa found a way to accelerate the re-emergence of 011's powers. I don't know about altruistic though...he's saving his own bacon too. As soon as the threat is gone, he'd probably move on 011old. Still about so he can be in control I think.

I just rewatched old Victor Kreel's (oVK) flashback scene. There's some stuff in here. Like,

-when they first enter the house, 001young is happy. But he stares at his mom when the sister gets away with running up the stairs after she tells her not to, but laughs it off. jealousy? bitterness to mom? After that, he stars down at the ground...

-oVK says his boy is a sensitive child, as the lights flicker showing 001young as thunder rolls...this must have actually meant that 001young made the lights flicker because he was jumpy at the thunder.

-oVK says it was pure evil. It's possible to make the connection that 001young was connected to the mind flayer then, but that's a bit of a stretch.

-oVK says the demon took pleasure in tormenting them, even poor innocent little Alice...doesn't mention 001young. The painting in her room looks like a skull in the right light.

-the painting obscured by the lamp in the next scene possibly looks like mind flayer.

-when the radio comes on, 001young is staring at his sister. right before his mom launches into the air, he turns is gaze to her.

-young Viktor Kreel busted through the door but ended up in a memory...much like Nancy has just fell into. I wonder what horrors she'll wake up to. Anyways, it looks like 001young is looking straight at his father when this happens.

Sidebar: old Victor Kreel is played by Robert Englund. If you didn't already know, he played Freddy Kruger in the Nightmare on Elm Street series....in the 80's. fucking rad, man! (as we used to say)

I'm terrible with a lot of actors' names but I'm pretty good at recognizing faces.

Took me a couple episodes to realize Enzo the Russian guard informant is the same dude that played Jaqen Haghar in Game of Thrones.

that one took me a minute too. the faceless man.

along those lines, matthew modine who plays Papa, his big movie in the '80s was Full Metal Jacket. He was the guy with the helmet that said Born to Kill. Great, great Vietnam war movie.

of course, Winona Ryder. Besides Beetlejuice, was in Heathers, possibly the greatest teen high school movie ever. That, and I had a massive crush on her. so bad that I went to a concert at the Greek Theater once, watched Soul Asylum (she was dating the lead singer) where I spent their entire set scanning the crowd in hopes to see her there. I didn't, but at least Screaming Trees and Spin Doctors were pretty good.

She was a local chick too. She is about 5 years older than me, but I often wondered back in the day if we knew some of the same people.

A Petaluma transplant!

no wonder she thought Primus's song was about her. Les and her were practically neighbors.

I'll be completely honest. I've seen Winona Ryder in various films but when watching from the beginning of season 1, her face was not familiar enough for me to identify it.

Speaking of recognizing people whose names I don't know and informants in current shows that were Game or Thrones Characters, I noted that the informant helping Obi-Wan in Leia in the new episodes reminds me of the mother of the Sand Snakes from Game or Thrones. My roommate said yes that is her.

But staying with Stranger Things, I knew I have seen 001 somewhere before. He was the main character of that movie Mortal Instruments: Shadowhunters. (Do not recommend) Don't remember his name but the face was instantly familiar.

I was the 80s

Im pretty well versed with 80s music (child of the 80s and 90s) and when I heard the Meg Myers cover that came out a few years ago I thought it was such a great song not realizing it was a cover for Kate Bush.

Im also a regular listener of 103.7 and I wonder why the song never made the rotation. Nor did I ever remember seeing this song ever make VH1 or MTV playlists.

If I didn't have 3 seasons under my belt I'da turned that garbage off.
I think we're 3 episodes in and it's just starting to pull me back to being interested instead of critiquing the directing and acting and plotline.

So heavy handed in making sure we know she's still a social outcast, there's a rift in the group, and Will is still a mopey lump with a stupid haircut.

And dude is gonna have his ankle shattered on purpose and still be able to walk around like it's no big deal.
Ok.

All in all, I think I'm mildly disappointed but hopeful for a solid second half..
