Stranger Things Season 4

Sat out this thread, having never watched the shoiw. Ms BA and I binged the whole thing in the last few weeks. Feels like cheating.

But I couldn't check in until I finished it. She's back East so I finished along from epi 7 on of this season.

There was really something for everybody in that show in so many ways. And as pointed out, there were a fair bit of imperfections but in the end, it had lots of good feelings about kids.
Historically, I guess I kinda checked out on Winona after the shoplifting deal but now I love her lots! She was great in this show. I have seen Harbour in many things, I think, but this was a very cool role for him. And so weird to see stand up guy Reiser in this role (though I think he had a tv show before). I see him as a serious actor now and I bet he can do lots of stuff henceforth. He may have been all along and I just didn't figure it out, not sure.

My just now ex-boss did grow up in the 80s so she was the one who got me interested. Good recommend!

If you think about it, only Harry Potter movies had the dramatic growing up of cast to this extreme. That alone made it fun to watch. How can you just not love Eleven? And I never want to see Modine ever again. He may have blown it, being so hated in terms of typecast. To me, they really pushed the creep envelope with his character, very edgy.

Ah well. Since we're turning into streamin demons (way behind you all) this was a fun time.

Never watched Game of Thrones, Mr. BA? :laughing

Your comment made me think of the Marvel movie The New Mutants. Because that movie was delayed so long by the time it was released, the actress Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) was so visibly older in the last season of GoT than she was in that movie which weren't that far apart on release dates.

I just wanted to hear Paul Reiser say "It was a bad call, Eleven, it was a bad call..." :cry

I confess, I didn't watch GOT from beginning. I was amused but never a true fan, it was too much of a mashup for a guy who has stuided a lot of Euro history and lived through Tolkiens barely disguised mestaphors or whatever of Brit history/folklore and such. I liked his so much more that GOT seems kind of a shallow imitation.

I liked it at the end but no, wasn't as aware of some of the kiddos who were growing up on the show, except Arya. I just think it (ST) was a large cast to all grow up and it seems like kind of a cinematic coup that it worked out.

You're not wrong. It's easy to forget year to year with shows/movies.

With Stranger Things, it was a lot more obvious partly because of Covid delays but those kids really grew up between Season 3 and 4. Not quite as obvious of course with the cast that were already teenagers in season 1.

I know there's been a million memes about this, but I hope y'all have been watching the show with subtitles on. If not, you're missing out.

"Ichorous tentacles constrict"

:laughing

Heads up to anyone who hasn't watched the final episode: Once the major event transpires there is ZERO reason to watch the remaining 40 minutes. It is nothing but a video montage of feels. No plot advancement what-so-ever.
Cut to the last five minutes to watch the utterly shocking teaser for season 5. So, so shocked.

I'm going to say the physical / mental health state of Max is going to be a significant factor in things to come. Most of it is, as you say, "feels" but emotional payoff is emotional payoff.

Spoiler:

I felt like Hopper in Russia was just a plot point so that he wouldn't come to the rescue of the kids. Did him battling the demi gorgons there have any impact whatsoever on the kids abilities to fight Vecna at all?

That whole sequence dragged on way the fuck longer than it should have, but I reckon it definitely made an impact. As soon as Hop decapped the demogorgon the tentacles receded in the house, freeing Steve, Nance and Robin. A lot of that happened in tandem with Eleven fighting back in the headspace, but I think it all had an impact.

The Smoke escaped and got into the demodogs, thus connecting them to the hivemind. Vecna is partly connected to the hivemind. Fire + hivemind = owwowowow

So Yuri flies up over the prison and sees dozens of dead Russian soldiers splattered all over the place and Hopper standing in the middle of it, alive and victorious, and still decides to help him escape....???

That was odd to me.

Yuri strikes you as a loyalist?

Both he and Dimitri/Enzo are mercenaries of opportunity. I don't think they really give a shit about the red army, nor its prison system other than seeing it as an exploitable resource.

Dimitri cashed in some moral favors with Yuri from what I guess is some past history between them to get the bird off the ground. I'm guessing that's burnt once they get to safe ground. Hopefully Dimitri returns in the future, he's a good egg.
