Stranger Things Season 4

Are we beyond the white text time yet? I have questions.

EDIT: Ok, I switched to dark mode just for this thread.

I'm mostly confused about 001/Vecna. Is there now a time loop? Is El now Bran Stark and 001 is Hodor? Did any of it even happen? During all of their conflict scene El kept switching back from child to teen. And then they showed things going crazy with her (presumably) IN the NINA tank, so was all of that just the accelerated program and happening in her mind? And the timeline would put 001 at least in his late 30's. If he's so powerful and evil, how come he sticks around the lab as a helper for so long, taking abuse? Unless he doesn't exist and is just a device to reignite El's powers?

I mean, he was depowered by the microchip he got 11 to remove in him. It was only after she took the chip out that he was unleashed.

We're past the statute of limitations of needing to claim spoilers or use white text.

Not a time loop. El is not Bran Stark or anything remotely like him. Everything we/she saw is real. The switching back between child and teen was El remembering what really happened versus seeing things like a movie because she shut out all of those memories. Then coming to terms that it's her and realizing what happened that she didn't remember. The NINA tank isn't some trickery fake memory machine.

To your question about why he stuck around the lab, that was explained. "Papa" was scared of his ability and chipped him. He stuck around because he had no choice and also biding his time like many villains in so many stories do. That's nothing new. It wasn't until El came around that he saw a way out and manipulated her. And don't forget there's some time manipulation with his abilities that isn't explicitly explained yet.

That as well^

Yeah, the upside down seems to have a time variance that isn't clearly explained, but my impression as that when she stuffed him into the Upside Down, he has been there a long, long time becoming that Vecna Beast.

That's a possibility I hadn't really thought of. But the time difference I think me, you, and others are having trouble with isn't about 001's time in the upside down but the time in the "real world" where things don't seem to add up between his childhood and current events, unless you entertain the likelihood of him having time manipulation abilities in some capacity/small radius, which I guessed at in an earlier post and they hinted at with the clock.

But sure, if time works different in the upside down as well, it's no surprise 001 has become such a butt hurt asshole. :laughing

Thanks. I’ll probably have to watch it again maybe sober this time. I remember him talking about the chip and El saying she could take it out but I must have looked at my phone right after. So all of the conflict between El and 001 happened in the old Hawkins lab.

I was going to say maybe each gate to the USD is locked in time? But they entered in a current one so I guess not.

Given Vecna’s affinity for spiders, and the Mindflayer’s spider-like composition, couldn’t Vecna be in control of it all? I’m not sure who outranks who.

Time 100% is different in the upside down. It hasn't been clearly defined, but that was called out as the specific reason they were unable to retrieve Max's firearms from her home in the upsidown.

Time being declared as different, then you have this Vecna being this gnarly fleshed meatbeast, so I assume he has been in there LONGER THAN YOU THINK, DAD, LONGER THAN YOU THINK!

That's possible. The fact that there's a human/demon hybrid with immense power in the upside down raises a lot of questions.

Yeah, I'm completely fine with time working differently in the upside down. Thinking back through the events and correcting myself if I said differently. That was kinda obvious when Nancy was looking for her gun in her home, in the upside down, that she knew she stashed away in the normal world and found nothing.

But the issue that has a lot of us scratching our heads is not about the upside down but the time between Henry as a kid and being an orderly in the compound before El kicked him in the balls to the upside down and became Vecna. He could be 200 years old for all we know with his time down there.

time variance not clearly explained, maybe, but the writers gave us a specific date and event at which the underground seems to be stuck in time?

and gotta say, Mr Bower knocked it out of the park, in the big reveal scene w/ Ms El, good for him.

just love the whole cast.

enjoying this thread … :thumbup

... LONGER THAN YOU THINK, DAD, LONGER THAN YOU THINK!

Refreshing find someone who knows (and uses) this quote.

Still annoyed that in Russia one can shatter both ankles and walk like normal. :rolleyes

The frigid temps really help keep that inflammation down :laughing Impressive as well that a couple plucky Americans can take down a Soviet gulag! The guards were so inept I can't believe they hadn't already been eaten by the demogorgon.

There's a scene with a modern A/C unit in the immediate background. I can let that kinda shit slide.
But a plotline of dude pulverizing his ankles in order to remove shackles and he's out there doin hard labor and jumping down from bunks the next day?
gtfo. :x

The ankle hitting thing was just confusing to me. I am unwilling to accept that they thought he could stroll around on a broken ankle or that this was part of the plan. It is just too absurd.

I was never clear on exactly what the hammer striking was supposed to accomplish exactly, he didn't discuss his plan that I recall, so like there was some mushing and some moving of shackles and some show of injury, but it seemed just like a poorly defined plot point to me.

I am just glad that they worked this out with Marvel to build in the Red Guardian origin story.

He had the big Russkie shatter 'em so he could fold his feet flat enough to slip the shackle off.
I thought he was gonna aim for the chain itself, but no, he's supposedly walking around with lower extremities made out of jello...and even had the guard yank on it a few times to verify it was still locked on. :laughing

I do like the way Murray talked himself into whooping Yuri's ass with karate. :rofl
"I beat a 16 year old kid, who is really good at karate...I could beat Yuri!!" And then did it. :laughing

The guards were stormtrooper rejects not even the Empire found useful.

I started training karate at age 5 or 6. I was laughing my ass off watching that scene like... :wtf Nobody talks like that. I know it's comedic relief but still. :laughing
