Thinking about buying a Tacoma, I'm in the process of selling my 82 22r right now. I'm looking for something with a good size bed, automatic, extended cab is a must I'm 6'6. Don't really want a double cab. I will be parking it in sf so it will get banged up. I was initially after a 04 prerunner those are still damn expensive. My limit is 15k, any ideas? I would like to sticker to toyota it possible but I'm open

Get the 2nd gen. They are much much bigger and the 4.0 V6 is beyond bulletproof.

Access cab + standard 6 foot bed is not that long, and makes long trips super comfy.

For 15K, you can get the 5-lugger 2WD, but only with the 4 banger.

Ah the good 'ol 22r. Had a p.u. with 22r and 38's back in the day. Later on got a 4-runner with a 22re. Not so good but it was a 4-runner. Currently driving a f-150 so all the bikes can fit in the back. Good luck on your search!

Just hard finding anything lower miles at a good price

I wouldn't worry too much about "lower" miles. Stan, want to bump your thread on Tacos? Dom you got some reading to do this was discussed fairly recently but IIRC in that thread anything under 200k miles was still considered "low"ish. They'll run far longer than most people keep their vehicles.

What are the best years?

98 and up for the 4cyl 01 and up for the 6cyl

but mileage also equates to wear and tear on the interior

anything over 100k starts to show at 200k I'm not interested

thats my main thing. I understand motors can go well over 200k my truck now has almost 250k and runs awesome. My main thing is a clean interior and clean motor with no leaks or issues. I would just prefer something under 150k because I intend on keeping it for a great deal of time.

Look really close for rust if that truck is actually from Oahu like the first picture suggests.

yeah i just noticed that hawaii plate... what can i expect to pay price wise for a 06 to lets say 08 prerunner? i guess anywhere from 12-20k? what is a GOOD price on one and what is average. just trying to get a plan sorted out because there are so many damn options and variables.

i sold my 2007 5 speed 2.8L tacoma access cab for 13.6$k about 8 months ago. it had 80k miles

i bought a 2009 tacoma 2.8L automatic, acess cab for $15k, with 68k miles about 4 months ago.

If you look at a 2nd generation Tacoma check out a 1st generation Tundra. Just a little bigger get the V8 and better milage than the V6.

That ad was just something I quickly pulled up. Not saying thats what you should check out. Even with rust, Toyota is replacing frames on a case-by-case basis. If it really is bad, they will replace.

Anyways, for a 2nd gen pre runner, I would say anything near 15K would be a smoking deal, and up to 25K for a very good truck.

As you know, they hold their values very well.

yeah im finding that out the hard way haha thanks Stan I really appreciate the help!

i'm not a frequent trader like corky or corndog, but I am a friend of the hooptee...mileage doesn't worry me AS A HOBBY. I'd say put yer bread on a fleet rental sale or showroom demo late model if its for your own personal use, scounge payments, drink coors instead of heretic, ok? and fan the romance. a truck or van is a tool. you like counting on used tools when you want to get something done?

Definitely check out the rangers if you're not set on the tacoma. I recently bought a 03 ranger fx4 level 2 for under 6k. 4.0L V6, 4x4, camp shell. High mileage but I'm not too worried. I Love this truck.
