Tacoma

i'm not a frequent trader like corky or corndog, but I am a friend of the hooptee...mileage doesn't worry me AS A HOBBY. I'd say put yer bread on a fleet rental sale or showroom demo late model if its for your own personal use, scounge payments, drink coors instead of heretic, ok? and fan the romance. a truck or van is a tool. you like counting on used tools when you want to get something done?

Issue is im going to be parking this on the street....

I say go ranger only if you're planning on spending under 10K. For your budget, I would go taco all the way. As a previous Ranger, and full size dodge ram owner, nothing beats the quality of the taco.

I would go for the 2nd gen 5 lug 4cyl 2WD non-prerunner if I was using the truck for transpo/parking/living in SF.

Those can be found for under 12K easily.

Remember, the truck has been essentially unchanged from '05-'14 (except for the facelift), so parts are plenty, and you can modify the truck to suit your tastes.

:twofingerGave into the hipsters offer for your truck eh???

Lmao, no more like I have spent so much money fixing it up
And it still doesn't run right lol

Save yourself. Never even THINK about buying a ford.

I have found a few second gen tacos with 150k miles trd prerunner. around 12-14k I am really getting hung up on miles. I know most people say it will run forever if properly maintained.. but fuck how do i know someone hasnt beat on it for 150k miles before i take ownership..

fuck where do you live sac or vville or something? 103 degrees at 10am? ahah

Picture is from a couple weeks ago when I was in Sac. Truck as 1.5k more miles on it as of this morning. I'm going for high score :teeth

You'll know as soon as you see the truck whether or not someone has beat on it. Open the hood; look a the motor, check the oil. Does everything look clean? how long have they owned it? Any service records? As for the V6 1GR motor, 150K is nothing for it. The rest of the truck should remain solid as long as the PO wasn't an idiot. All the interior plastics, seat fabric is made from pretty durable stuff.

Toyota also has an awesome online service history you can access as long as you have the VIN.

http://www.toyota.com/owners/web/pages/parts-service/history

You can see any dealer service history, any recalls done, and all warranty work done since new.

I bought my taco used, with no history. I now have the full history of the truck and now know that the clutch was done 20K miles ago. It's a nice resource.

While I congratulate your truck's mileage, you know that is not necessarily the norm on Fords! 300K on a taco is pretty much no big deal, whereas on the ford, you're pretty much on borrowed time.:p

Here's a guy trying to reach a million miles on his 2nd gen Taco. I think he's only at a paltry 420K right now, but he should get there no problem!

you know, Nissan AND Mazda make trucks, too!

I had a 91 Mitsu Mightymax short bed 4. 150k, absolutely un-killable. not taco or big 3 brands maybe as 'shiny', to thieves, vandals, and other city level miscreants. I just had to have some more comfort at the days end, so in '99 I went fleet '98 GMC silverado w/ 7k. now has 175k.
If OP is really 6'6", F-150 shortbed, straight six 300 ci is a trucks truck. Rare, but if you find one thats been maintained, $6k will put you put you in heaven with $$ left for new good seats, meats, and tunes. OD will get you around 21 mpg hiway I'd say. Shotgun rack, rattle can primer, and I support the Red and White sticker, and you should be good to go. Keep the stylin' stuff low key so like you really mean business to the punks... JMHO of course.

Nissan Frontier...disregard GM like plastics and being mistaken for a Mexican owner.

My father in law, who is Mexican, had the same truck as OP until recently. A 1980 Toyota long bed.

He sold it and bought a nice clean 2007 Ranger

I got my 2001 taco v-6 x-cab with 150k for $6500 down in Santa cruz. Has big tires nice rims, full camburg long travel, lumber rack that I sold for $100, aluminum tool box, nice prerunner bumper with piaa lights and aluminum bash plate, geared difs, nice stereo, line - x'ed bed, flowmaster, k&n cai. There's good deals out there if your patient. It was on cl for $8,500 but I wasn't afraid to deal him down. Make people offers that seem outrageous and sometimes you get the deal of the day.

my step brother in law drove down from Idaho for my dads service in OR, and we drank and went rippin' in his v6 taco w/160k, boxes and rack, and I thought
it was dandy withe the xtra cab, but if I was 6' 6'' it would be a little cramped.

fuck searching for trucks... this has turned into another full time job!!!
