Tats from the tattoo braggin thread - split by Bap

american traditional are the kinds of tattoos the old sailors and stuff had. minimal color wheel, mainly black to color shading, heavy outlines. the kind of stuff the real men and bikers had back in the day when tattoos were taboo. and although the tattoos might seem simplistic in design they are actually quite hard to have done correctly and smoothly

My mentor says im an "advanced apprentice" and wants to promote me soon. I want to find a few people I can do American traditional tattoos on for a very low rate to build my portfolio. I'm talking like $25 an hour to have me tattoo you in a professional shop. I have the keys to the shop so I am very flexible on hours. Anyone interested?

Sure. What's an example of something you wanna do. Yes i know the style, postup a pic of a specific AT theme you want, You can have my left deltoid/upper arm. that or my left pec. Hows a standard "mom" style tattoo sound?

What do you want to get?

赤い彗星

Means the Red Comet. I was hesitant at first because Kanji tattoos seem 'played out'. 1) Most people with Kanji tattoos probably couldn't read their tattoo from another but I studied Japanese for 3 years.

2) It's my tattoo. Who cares what others think? It's for me.

I'm just not sure where I want to put it. Also I'd like it in red but I know color tattoos don't always look good on darker skinned folk. I'm pretty dang light skinned though for a black guy so maybe it won't be a problem.

Maybe I should just take a stroll down to tattoo shop and get an opinion from an artist.

get it in red and have a thin black outline put around it. a couple of my darker skinned mexican friends have done it this way and it makes it stand out so you can see the color and design better

+1

I've seen a lot of cool tattoos where the color contrast is in the tattoo instead of right next to a skin tone.

When and where?

:rofl

I'm gonna keep it on my mind for another month or so. If it's something permanent, a little while longer waiting won't hurt. No rush...

It took me more than a couple of years to mull it over for myself, and I don't regret waiting.
Nicely, I don't regret getting it done, either! :)

When the time is right, it'll happen, things will just fall into place!

lol triple seven doesnt seem to keen on getting some pieces done.

apprentice's are a funny thing

My great apologies. Been super busy and couldnt get a chance to respond yet. I'm off today.

Definitely would love to start tattooing you. Would you like to come in this week? Send me a PM if so. :)
