Tats from the tattoo braggin thread - split by Bap

A couple of my latest since my last contribution to this thread.

This one is my daughter's name, as handwritten by my wife, in the same spot on my hand as my brother has his. Thought it was a clever way to hit three birds with one stone.

And this one is to directly honor my brother, so I never forget to live a quality of life he would've wanted for himself. An ambigram for the word fate.

Damn I hate when I look at my subscriptions and this thread has a new post.

Im trying to decide between a half sleeve or a full sleeve. Something simple or something a bit "darker" and more complex. I dont know if I can pull off the full "dark" sleeve. :p

Ok, I just got this traditional tiger head about two hours ago.:cool

I don't even like tattoos, but those are really nice. The raven just looks like it's supposed to be there.

It seems like the tattoos that look the best are the kind of art that where there's thought to how it will look tattooed instead of just trying to take a cool image and put it on someone's body or randomly placing pictures everywhere.

my personal opinion on tattoos is that the art should reflect the shape of the body part it is on, and accentuate it. so the placement of pieces and how they flow with the rest of the body is as important as the piece itself.

now I love all shapes and sizes of tattoos, including americna traditional stuff that doesnt quite fit that idea and look more like art "placed" on the body as opposed to ""part" of the body, but for me thats what I am into on my body. so for example my sleeve wasnt a stencil or anything but literally drawn on me. no preconcieved notion, just letting it flow with my arm and its shape. the raven was a piece I like and wanted tatto'd but we played with its shape and placement so that it flowed with my arm.

my tattooist and I are good friends and we see eye to eye on a lot of ideas, so I pretty much let him do anything on that sleeve, Iliterally had no idea what was getting tatto'd when I went in for the apoitment, free reign (tho the face was a specific thing he we built off of)

Here's a couple pinups that I've had on my legs for awhile. Poorly self taken pics.

I agree with flow being wholly important. It's about the composition of the piece on the canvas that is the body/part it's going onto. Some parts of the body it's very difficult to keep it from looking blocky, like on the legs. You really need elongated forms to pull them off.

Of course, in the end the tattoo is up to the person whom it's going on and I couldn't ever judge them for choosing a certain thing on a certain part of their body but when it comes to looking at it, some things just look more...natural than others.

And goddammit looking at all these tats make me want another! >.<

love your trad stuff dude.

Thanks man, there is a method to the madness. In a couple of weeks I'm getting the Sailor Jerry hulla girl with the ukalali on the back of my right arm. Ya that one, you know it. It will complete all the large tattoos on my right arm and them it's time for some smaller filler pieces to complete my trad American sleeve.:cool

yeah I actually think picasso's style lends itself well to tattoo because he used a lot of line and block color in his painting,s especially his middle period ones
