I used to be the tire change monkey for Cycle Gears rider support program at this time, Dwayne and Dave had some great battles that year, made getting up at 4am to get up to the track worthwhile, plus a chicken sandwich from the snackbar, good days. Cycle gear had some good riders after Dwayne too, Cal Rayborn III, Jake Zemke, Steve Rapp and Roger Lee Hayden flew the CG banner.

1991 #1 Dave Deveau ...now racing super motards..

gives Dwayne Chung a kick in the ass...:teeth

Mr.Sears Point, Paul was so smooth and fast. If I remember correctly he beat Cook :thumbup And won the AMA national.
Here is the back end of one of his AFM bikes.

Thanks for the link guys. :thumbup I have a special place in my heart for Paul. We never raced together in the same class, but we were on the track at the same time. Once we were at Sears doing a AFM north south shootout which was a 12 lap race instead of the usual 8 lap sprint. Paul had caught and passed me on about lap 11. I'm on my XS500 Yamaha twin (box stock) and he was on one of his Ducatis. He passed me going into T5 we went through the Carousel almost wheel to wheel then he walked away heading up to T11. Paul was tired because he blew T11 (Paul never made mistakes) and I caught back up to him. Then as we were interring T8, Paul missed a shift and shot off the track and crashed hard right in front of me, cartwheeling up the bank. Damn I though, that was going to hurt. So after the race I found Paul walking around in the pits and asked him if he was ok cause I just saw him do some high speed cartwheels and he kinda laughed and said yeah I'm fine. He was one tough hombre.
:cool In a way I guess he was one of my HEROS. It saddened my deeply when I found out many years later that he got hurt. But he looks great in those pictures above and it brought me joy to see he is doing well. But where is that PONYTAIL? :ride

Very cool post Budman... Lots of cool pics... Always into the old stuff so bring more if you can... Makes me like the AFM a bunch more... Quite a rich history indeed. :)

Very cool link to Paul's home page.. thanks.. :thumbup

I remember watching him race back when I was dreaming about doing it.

I took this article from his home page to share here for those that did not click the page. It really appears he has some awesome support and continues his love for life after his accident. Right on Paul :Port

In the late '90s there were two Lazko brothers who raced AFM on CBR600's. One of the brothers, Steve, crashed and was paralyzed. I followed his recovery for awhile via their web page but eventually it fell by the wayside. How the heck is that guy doing nowadays?

AFM History

Yikes!! Boy some of those pics brings back memories. A lot of our "new generation" riders would not be caught riding in places like Vaca Valley Raceway, Cotati, Orange County or the Fairgrounds in Sacramento. We had some great times back then. I started in 1968 with the AFM riding my 350 Kawasaki at VV. Raced for most of the next 30 years. When I was riding a 250, back in the day, the 250 grid would be made up of the "who's who" of racing. Ron Grant, Jody Nicholas, Don Emde, Walt Fulton, Mike Lane, Art Baumann just to mention a few..........and after they kicked your ass they did'nt give the trophys back!! Hard to believe its been 4 years since the reunion event..........how time flys.

Wow, nobody's posted since 2008? Here's my pathetic contribution; Pete "Padre" Wensloff. (My little riding buddy.) I think he was #2 over all in '91, and #1 over all in '92?
