The Electric Motorcycle Thread

Yeah the motorcycle EV space is vaporware central.

The name of the game is "launch" a model with some crazy wishlist of impressive specs, spend years talking about it, never sell a single one.

Only a few companies have actually been able to deliver, and not in high numbers.

How's that Damon coming along?

Stark is the company name and StarkFuture.com is the website Must be an Ironman fan

13K is not bad considering that some bozos pay 10-15k for a top tier pedal bike

Ducati joining the e-fray...

I'm guessing 480 lbs. Interesting that it dethroned Energica as the supplier of the 600 lb beasties.

I'm really stoked on the Ducati as a new Energica owner.

The bike I got is 573lbs but it carries its weight surprisingly well.

Compared to the Zeros and Livewire I've ridden the Energica at least feels faster. I didn't get enough seat time in the SRF to really judge it.

I hope Ducati actually releases a road bike and not just a race bike. We need more mainstream manufacturers to pick up e-bikes. We are at the point where 20kwh is enough for a good amount of riding, and will probably satisfy most folks desire for rangу + the fast charging infrastructure is finally getting good.

Did you get the Ribelle or the Ribelle RS? What range are you getting on it?

Ribelle with the new EMCE motor.

Not sure yet, seems like a lot of range. Haven't done any long trips. Looks like I should easily get 120 miles though.. probably more if I take it easy.

Energica's contract as the sole supplier for Moto-E was always for a limited time period. I believe it was 3 years.

What many folks are little puzzled about is that the folks who run Moto-E didn't decide to open it up to multiple manufacturers like Formula-E rather than another single supplier run.

I suspect Ducati will have similar terms as Energica, i.e. a 3 year run as the sole supplier before another manufacturer gets a turn or it gets opened up into a multi-manufacturer series.

My Ribelle with the original motor gets about 80 miles on the freeway at a steady 75mph. Any heavier on the throttle and you definitely see the range drop even more.

In all fairness, I'm a heavy guy (about 250lbs with gear) so a lighter rider will likely get better range.

If I do strictly around town riding with a few back road sprints I get closer to 120-150 miles. Then again, I usually only charge up to 90% and try not to drain it to lower than 20% or the high teens on a regular basis.

Sweet whip dude! congrats on the new steed!

The range is good. I did 65 miles of quite spirited riding, including a lap on Hwy9/Bear Creek, Hwy17, went from Los Gatos to Santa Cruz, etc and did some full throttle runs on the freeway and used 50%. I was not trying to save any charge at all.

So 130 miles seems realistic when it comes to spirited riding. Can definitely get more if you baby it but if I wanted to go slow I'd get a Prius.

The best part is I can come home and just plug it in! No need to stop for gas.

Put on a couple hundred miles before the rain set in. I think I'll talk/discuss on some negatives about this bike. There aren't many but they are worth mentioning:

- I'm still not 100% sure about the rear suspension setup. It's Ohlins and still needs to be dialed in but overall the linkage-free suspension I feel is not ideal for varying conditions. It's pretty good as is but doesn't blow me out of the water. Quite possible that it just needs to be properly set up and then I'll be 100% happy.

- I put it in sport mode and it seems obvious that the bike kinda limits the torque output in some areas especially at slower speeds. I wish they could let us customize the map a bit so we could get more torque. C'mon man! Maybe this is what the RS model is for? It's still insanely fast obviously and the throttle response is the smoothest I've ever experienced on any motorcycle.

- There is basically zero aftermarket for this bike, which makes sense since there are only hundreds of them out there but I wish I could find something like a huge windscreen for winter commuting and quality frame sliders.

- The GOM range display is kind of a joke. It uses your last 10km of riding to estimate how much range you have left so during my lap through the Santa Cruz mountains it varied greatly and was pretty useless. Luckily this bike has enough battery where range anxiety isn't a problem. I'd say the range is roughly equivalent to a tank of gas on a few bikes I've owned.

- The dash display layouts are just ok and the app is completely useless. Both Zero and LiveWire can show nav directions on their dash now. It appears the Energica has this ability in theory but it's not really developed. It's not really super clear on the dash when the TC or eABS kicks in, there is no way to set a schedule for charging, the app doesn't work at all if the bike is off but charging, etc etc. Hopefully they focus on this further since there's a lot of potential there but the execution as it stands is weak.

- There are no OTA updates for Energica. At this time there is no reason for me to update anything since the bike is new but it would be nice for the future so I don't have to go out to the dealer in Livermore.

- It's surprisingly nimble but you have to be careful at parking lot speeds where you are reminded of the weight of the bike.

- The headlight looks nice and is great for day/dusk but the optics have a really sharp cutoff, and the high beams work more like spotlights instead of fill lights. I live in the hills and this is kind of a problem since the headlights don't shine into the turn. Fixed by aftermarket lighting.

- The factory luggage is really really small. It's just not great. Probably ok for a day trip but not touring, and there aren't any aftermarket options out there.

- There is no storage anywhere on the bike. At all. I don't even have a place where I could shove my reg card and insurance. And no built-in toolkit either.

- The cruise control buttons are literally impossible to press. Whoever designed this must have long af fingers.

- The kickstand is like 10 feet long. I could see the bike being blown over by a strong wind.

- The keyless works similarly to how it was on my Ducati Diavel, meaning it randomly displays key out-of-range errors when riding. The ignition is keyless but the seat is not. Would be nice to not have to take the key out at all.

Does the rear pogo on the drive-out?

I have not experienced this yet.

My only major complaint is going over big bumps at speed, I do feel a bit of pogo.

Again the suspension is not bad, it's pretty good, just not great, but I need to have it properly set up for me before passing final judgment.
