The Electric Motorcycle Thread

I mean it's Italian... there will be delays. Not really surprising. From all I've seen, it will probably be well worth the wait!

A harness doesn't seem like something that needs to be made in one specific place. I'd be surprised if the harnesses were made outside of Italy, since it's a pretty low volume bike.
I got my 2023 Energica Experia just last week! Ordered on Jun 1, 2022. Promised I would have it in September. It got to the dealer in Feb 2023. In my garage on Feb 15, 2023:

It it too cold in Reno to operate it?

What range do you get with all of the cases?
It's a 20KW useable battery. So well above 100 miles even at faster speeds, such as the freeway speed limits. Enough range to travel with the ICE bikes. I probably average a good 150 miles on a full charge from what I have seen so far in a few rides.

Yes, it is snowing here today. But I also live in Auburn, CA. I came from there Monday in my Jeep, leaving the Experia in Auburn. I already put on several hundred miles on my Experia in the Auburn area. Notice I have check-ins on Plugshare in places such as Plymouth, CA which I came down from Georgetown after a ride to Forest Hill. 161 miles that day. I also AC charged at Georgetown, just to get my bike on Plugshare there too.

Daaang! The first Zero I'd actually consider buying (if it has fast charging). Their designs are usually a little odd visually, like Buells. But I would buy that in a hot minute.

The SR/X will still have the low voltage battery that is NOT compatible with CCS. But it can charge as high as 12KW (with the extra 6KW charger), but finding a charge station on the road that can do 12KW will be difficult. But use a Tesla-Tap and a Tesla Destination charge station and many of those will do the 12 KW. You can also find a couple of J-1772's that will do it around Lake Tahoe. But those 70-amp J-1772's are VERY rare. But two next to each other in the above link. I have used them both on my 2017 Zero SR, charged at 8KW using external chargers.

Thanks Don. Sounds like plenty of research is advisable before buying an electric bike. Especially if you're not in California! -S-

Electrics are a totally different trip than ICE, and that includes the cars. The electric bikes do not compare well against each other, each has their advantage and disadvantage.

I also own a 2018 Tesla M3, AWD, LR as well as a 2022 Chevy Bolt. They are both EVs, but nothing compares. For 99% of my drives, I like the Chevy Bolt much better. But the Tesla is better for a drive across the country. The Bolt is a lot more fun to drive for many reasons. I especially like the regen control on the steering wheel and the progressive regen brakes. Tesla has neither.

Zeros add regen with the brake pedlas and is adjustable, just as is the deceleration regen. But it coasts very poorly even if all regen is off.

Energica, Like Tesla, adds no regen to the brakes. But like Tesla has plenty of deceleration regen. Regen cannot be turned off totally in the Tesla, but has a lower setting. It can be turned totally off in the Zeros and the Energicas. The Energica coasts very well with the regen off, unlike the Zeros.

All Energicas come with a reverse. A reverse can be added to a couple of Zero's top of the line models.

Energicas and the Harley LiveWire has CCS charging. The Harley LW has no level two charging, charges at 1.3 KW max. The Energicas can charge at 3 KWs with 240 VAC on level two.

Here’s another, and maybe local
GRAFT EV EO.12

That is super nice and pricey before buying the battery! CF and Ti will do that! I for one am really disappointed in the trend of many elec. dirt bikes to spec peak power arrived at with unconventional "math" that you never see in use. In reality typically you see about 1/2 or less power at the rear wheel. Why do the manu's have rely on this deception when the rest of the moto world uses true kW and H.P. numbers? This sly tactic makes it impossible for the consumer to compare these bikes honestly. We need to know true power/weight numbers stated at either the shaft or wheel. What makes this industry segment so comfortable with giving motorcyclists fuzzy numbers for power??!!

How to make a small fortune in the electric motorcycle business? Start with a large one. Same goes for craft breweries.
