The Electric Motorcycle Thread

Are ebikes still eligible for tax credits? If so, how much?
I don't think so.

FWIW, I thought it was a very reasonable price tag. The launch bike comes with everything possible. Perhaps later, they will sell a cheaper version of the same bike without as many goodies.

That's quite the hefty price tag for the Experia, however the bike looks pretty dope. Only disappointed that they don't have 6kw ac charging. When available the dc charging is way better but ATM the ac chargers are more plentiful so it would be a nice to have the option.
I agree, but I kinda see it the opposite. There are many places that only have CCS and no J-1772. I wish every place that had CCS or any type of DC charger would also have a J-1772 or at least a 14-50R. AFAIK, every EV made can use J-1772 but it's somewhat useless on a trip when it is 3KW or below. But I have used it at times to make it to the next CCS station on my SS9-.

Reno is loaded with free J-1772 and TD AC chargers all the way to Miden/Garnerville. But Reno, CC, Minden / Gardnerville have both, J-1772 & CCS. Bridgeport only has CCS.

Between here and Truckee, there is a CCS charger almost every exit on I-80. Also, many on US 50 and on one each end of Hwy 20.

Where there are J-1772 but no CCS, I will take my 2017 Zero SR and charge it at 8KW. I find the big problem with CCS is that they are ridiculously unreliable.

Yeah i don't understand why but Electrify America chargers never work for me, Volta used to but now doesn't, charge point is hit n miss. EVgo stations almost always work for me though. I would have assumed there was a standard protocol and everything would work hunky dory but that's not the case just yet. Makes it frustrating cause even with planning sometimes you're fucked cause some stupid handshake cockblocks your electrons.

The truck with EA stations is you start the charge using the app before plugging in and then immediately connect the cable. This works for me every time.

I have no idea why it's so damn hard to just make it work so you don't have to time plugging it in.

so i gotta download another app? jesus

Yes... But in my experience EA has been rock solid and reliable.

I try not to use EVgo since they charge $2 for each charging session on top of the electric cost.
Have you ever tried to use the EA CCS in at the Elk Grove Wal*Mart with an Energica?

The EA at the Fernley, NV Wal*Mart works perfect for me every time. The opposite at Elk Grove Wal*Mart. I have no idea what the differences are. See my check-in there for May 13, 2021, but that was more than a year ago, so perhaps they work better now.

I haven't seen my Energica in months since it's been in service, so I haven't had a chance to travel outside of the Bay Area on it unfortunately.

Uh oh, in service for months? That's not good. What happened?

Something wrong or 6k service? I made a write up for the procedure, its an afternoon jobie

Unfortunately that's not out of the norm right now. Hell, even in 2020, before the supply chain crunch reached its crescendo, it took 4-5 months to get most of the parts for my Duke. Mach 1 said that KTM was prioritizing mission-critical parts to get bikes running, and de-prioritizing accessories like bodywork or mounting parts (my mechanical parts were ready in a month, the front stay and gauge cluster took 3 months).

And I hear recent, similar stories for Yamaha, Honda, Aprilia, and Suzuki - so if the big boys are struggling to get parts out, I can't imagine the upstarts would be faring much/any better.

Working in supply chain, with most of our product coming from western Europe, I don't see things improving until MAYBE midway through next year, and that's only if the global economy does a good job of getting inflation under control AND no there's other viral/WWIII outbreaks in the meantime

Not sure. Bike had issues fast charging and it seemed like power was limited at the bottom of the battery. Then at some point the malfunction light came on and the bike shut down twice abruptly on my ride.

Energica service is generally regarded as pretty good so I hope that the issue will be taken care of soon.

I don't believe there is a 6k service as this is a 2022 model Eva.

Been riding the Grom on the daily. As fun as it is, I do kinda want my Energica back.

:afm199 I forget how old my bike is now a days lol. Yeah the service intervals are spread much farther apart now.
Hopefully your issue gets sorted soon:thumbup

I might be able to do a short Sunday ride

Finally got my bike back. Everything is great.

It's amazing not to cook my testicles and ass from engine heat in this weather. Another advantage of electric motorcycles!

Taiwan's Gogoro is one such firm. In addition to a range of electric motorbikes, it has come up with a solution to the problem of a rider having to stand around while their bikes charge.

Instead of charging points, Gogoro's users in Taiwan simply need to drive to one of more than 2,200 battery stations, and swap their batteries for free. The outdoor stations run 24-hours a day, and are said to be able to withstand the typhoons and searing heat of Taiwanese summers.

Saw a couple of race bikes while at Laguna Seca this weekend.

I like them. They don’t disturb the neighbors and you can use your employer’s electricity to charge them. If they came down in price, had more range and charging stations - I’d buy one.

I wonder how much for the light fighter. The specs sound pretty dope
