The NHL Thread, 2012/2013 season

A tentative CBA has been agreed on, still awaiting final vote on the deal. The lockout appears to be over. Let us rejoice in happiness. :|

I was hoping they would just cancel the season at this point. It's going to be a shell of a season. Whoever wins will have an asterisk next to their name in the history books.

Sorry if I'm behind the times, but it was recently brought to my attention that Larry Block, the referee from Slap Shot, had passed away in early Oct. Hell of a performance Mr. Block.

Godspeed Larry, a truly classic scene.

(There is woman I know that we refer to as "the lost Hansen sister"; same hair, same glasses, same vocabulary, same demeanor.... :laughing )

I'm with you, Ducky. Wish they had cancelled the season. Now intra-conference games only. The agreement sounds like a concession to get a season...does not address some of the major issues, like revenue sharing across teams and culling some of the weak teams.

They'll never contract teams, sadly. They expanded too quickly, but now you have X number of players in the league, drop 2 teams that aren't making money and all of a sudden you have ~60 players and maybe 20 coaches without jobs. Add to that some minor league teams now losing affiliation and ultimately they'll fail, too. So they need to just try to make what they have work...the damage has already been done.

Not gonna lie, if this is legit, I'm happy to see hockey. I'm not happy about the length of the lockout, but I'm happy hockey will be back. :party

Lets get the games started ASAP !!! :)

This is the only hockey I've watched this year.

I will not be going to any games this season.

Goon is an amazing hockey movie, and semi based on a true story haha the players on that team are classic.

I couldn't even count how many times I've watched Goon, Slapshot, Mystery Alaska and The Mighty Ducks since the lockout started.

I'm glad it is over, but really disappointed they are trying to rush a half (assed) season and playoff scenario. Part of me wants to go to the games and part of me wants to stay at home and keep cheering for the Bulls every Friday in non HD tv broadcasts. I feel like Dorothy Mantooth right now; taken to a nice seafood dinner and never called back.:(

:rofl

I too enjoy the Bulls games in standard def, a nice throwback to how things used to be.

Any season ticket holders try to get a full refund and drop their tickets yet? I'm really pissed that I have to pay full price for some sloppy craptastic hockey games in a bullshit season.

I am no longer a NHL or NHLPA fan. Still a hockey fan, but screw professional sports at this point.

this is good news for Sharks fans (all hockey fans, really).

the team isn't getting any younger, and maybe they'll be fresher going into the playoffs.
