The NHL Thread, 2012/2013 season

I'm waiting.on word back from my friend. He's trying to get the day off. I'm in for sure, but don't wanna spend $175 to.go alone. :laughing

Rangers and Bruins tomorrow night at MSG. Wish I could be there. Lets go RANGERS!!!

After watching the Devils shutout the Flyers, getting into the swing of things. Good game.

Hell of a start to the season!

Hahaha I don't get the full story of that website or much about Gomez but the lengths someone went to do that is comical.

Long story short, he had a ridiculous contract worth 7.3M/year for 7 years. Mind you, with that money, it buys you comparable players like Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau. For a guy of his pay-grade, his stat sheet numbers are pretty abysmal. The running joke is: he scored 2 goals last year, making 3.4M/goal. He scored 7 goals the year before, making 1M/goal.

After this past lockout, teams were granted two buy-outs. Naturally, Montreal released Gomez and he got paid. He just signed with the Sharks today for 700k-1year contract

So he got all 49m? Then became a free agent?

Sounds like the lockout worked or well for him.

If he only got in to his third year and got bought out for just year three, that sure sucks.

Not quite. He played 5/7 years on Rangers (2) and Canadiens (3) before Montreal bought him out. Buy-out is 2/3 of remaining contract and the cap-hit remains with the team for this shortened season. I believe he had a front-loaded contract and he's still walking away with a cool 6-7M bucks haha. Thus, not a terrible surprise he signed for league minimum on a cup contending team.

Just noticed, but is this season still considered 2012/2013? Shouldn't it just be 2013?

Thoughts?

agreed. seems weird to call it 2012/2013. let's not candy-coat this: we lost almost half the season, and all of the 2012-part of the 2012/2013 equation. whether it was this person's fault or that person's doesn't matter, but don't bury it for history to decipher.

Nice righty by Lucic. Good seeing him back to his old form.
