The NHL Thread, 2012/2013 season

Far higher payout for the likes of Murray and Clowe, and although the departure is bittersweet (more so for Murray), I am extremely excited with these deals!
 
Yup. Dropped some dead weight...

Gives lots of opportunity to clear out more guys too, if the prospects work out. Look at couture, hall, etc...
 
Well with Murray and Clowe (one of my favorite Sharks) gone now we can hope for proper manners and maybe some figure skating moves... Fights will be all but a distant memory! I don't see much aggression from the guys these days be it hits, goals or fights they are just too dainty looking.

We're winning for the time being and that's a plus, as is the prospect of a fresh crop of rookies. The world Juniors earlier this year was pretty solid hockey. With the lockout and trades and doldrums a few weeks back I'm left very uninspired as a Sharks fan at the moment.

Fingers crossed for a nice little rally to end the regular season.

As much as Murray and Clowe were fan favorites and we all loved them, facts are facts, and both of those guys are simply too slow and unskilled for today's game. Same with Handguns, one of my favorites. All great guys and teammates, all a liability in today's game. The Sharks have eschewed team speed too much the past two seasons and gone steadily downhill as a result. Don't think its a fluke that the Sharks have had more jump the past few games with those three guys out of the lineup.

Worst trade in Sharks history, even if they gave a bag of pucks for this shitbag. Aside from being one of the biggest douche bags in recent hockey memory, at least since Sean Avery departed the league, the guy is near useless is the new NHL. Not to mention he scored one of the most critical goals against in Sharks history.

Fuck you Doug Wilson. I hope the Sharks miss the playoffs and you get fired.
 
LOL I had a feeling you'd be pissed. Can't blame ya, the guy's a real piece of shit. Hard to forget his hit on Michalek or, more recently, his hit on Hossa.

Though I have to disagree about the guy being useless in this league. 5G, 7A, 13PIM. Thinking objectively, I think it was a decent move. Essentially traded Clowe for Torres, 2nd round pick, and conditional 2014 2nd round pick. Added a guy with same grit, but more speed and better statline. 13PIM in 28 games...I don't want to say Torres found Jesus or something, but Clowes accumulated more PIMs in a single game.
 
Double fuck! As if the Raffi Torres for a 3rd rounder isn't fucked up enough, just to rub salt in the wound, the Devils just got Steve Sullivan from Phoenix for 7th rounder! A 50 point scorer last year on a good team, a playoff and power play beast, and the guy right above Torres in points on the Yotes, is had for a 7th and we give a 3rd for Torres. My head's gonna explode.
 
Raffi obviously has a well published history, but he's quietly put together a respectable season. He's on track to put up some of his best career goal/assist numbers while taking very few penalties. Through 25 games this season he has only 13 PIMS, and 5 of those were for a fight he knew was due in his first game back against Chicago. That's 4 minor penalties in 25 games this season. Surprised?

I hear you though, it seems like a bit of a gamble, and it seems like more could have been had for less, but overall I'm not upset about the trade though, and I think fans may warm up to him soon enough. Maybe.

raffi torres is a punk and not even qualified to hold clowes jockstrap.

i actually like that the sharks will (should) go into the playoffs low this time- lord knows the presidents trophy hasn't helped them get to the cup finals so maybe going in 7 or 8 will have better results...but yeah, they are making some shitty, fire-sale moves.

I don't know if I dislike the Torres trade really. I'm not a fan of the guy, but once he puts on a Sharks jersey, he is a Shark. And just like Corey Perry is a scumbag, if he were my scumbag, I would love him! But he is not, so fuck him.

I hope he plays tonight. See you bitches there!

I almost don't want them to make the playoffs just so we only have to see him for eleven games. Gah, so angry. :mad

I understand your hesitation, I was initially furious when the Wings acquired 37-year-old Chris Chelios in 1999, who had been a bitter rival in Chicago for the last 9 years. He was too old, and there had been a lot of nasty games over the course of those years. I despised him and I was pissed. Then he proceeded to play in Detroit another 9 years until the tender age of 46, though he'd earned my respect and support much sooner than that.

Raffi plays with a lot of heart, you guys will come around on him. I was hoping Holland might snag him so he could partner up with Jordin Tootoo for what would instantly become one of the most beloved lines in the league. :laughing

I also wanted the Wings to go after Clowe, but apparently they're going to see how they can retool after the season.

Lots of playoff spots still up for grabs in the West, with so few points separating so many teams.
 
Wow got home an turned nyr pitt game on.. Clowe hitting everything tht moves, 2 goals and an assist. His game is absolutely not outmoded...power fwds will always be relevant.
