The NHL Thread, 2012/2013 season

Wow got home an turned nyr pitt game on.. Clowe hitting everything tht moves, 2 goals and an assist. His game is absolutely not outmoded...power fwds will always be relevant.

Are you familiar with the term 'dead cat bounce'?

And I didn't say the power forward position was outmoded. I said aging power forwards who move like they have cement in their skates are outmoded.

Clowe needed to go, but not because he's done for.

I hate Torres.

I hated Jody Shelley too, but came around.

Guessing that once one of our players is getting roughed up and/or the other team is taking liberties, and Torres goes flying in and puts an end to it quick-like...cleanly would be preferred...I'll start to warm up to him.

anyone remember Bryan Marchment? one of the dirtiest in the league. not the best defender, but damned if the other team didn't always know and were very aware when he was on the ice. Torres will bring that to SJ. I guaran-fucking-tee that if/when he's put on a line with Couture or Pavelski, we'll all of a sudden see quite a bit more room for those middle-to-undersized centermen due to the opponenent's focus on Torres.

he's a first-class asshole. but he's now OUR asshole. And he'll make a positive difference for the Sharks I'm sure of it.

Hannan OTOH...slow and useless. maybe he'll get a bounce-back in his game what with coming back to the team that drafted him and all. but I'm not holding my breath for greatness out of him.

I think I saw a glimpse of Suter's pink boxer-briefs...the way that Boyle undressed him

You guys are nuts.

If we win a cup and he scores 20 goals in it, I will celebrate like a motherfucker.

We win a cup I'll celebrate, but I sure as shit won't give that fucker any credit.

I hate head hunters. He plays to hurt and that I am in no way ok with.

Those two and Marty McSorely. :rolleyes Gawd. Its one thing to defend your mates, but thats not what those guys did. I thought we were past picking up players that spend more time in the box than on the ice. :x

Clowe needed to go, but not because he's done for.

Let's revisit this conversation in a year or two. Clowe needed to go because he's dog slow and because he's flat lost his ability to win puck battles along the boards, which was what made him such a force prior to last year. Some commentators have pointed to the Kronwall hit in 2011 as the trigger of the decline in Clowe. I don't know if I agree with that, but anyone who know's hockey knows that he has lost a step and is not the player he was 2-3 years ago.

I hope things work out for him, because I always liked him. But I think the league has passed him by. Being a fan doesn't mean burying your head in the sand and ignoring reality when it's staring you in the face. The Sharks need to get faster and younger in order to compete in this NHL. Shedding our three lead sleds was a good first step.

^ I think that shows that it was the slash, not the contact to the ice, which injured Heatley. not that I'm feeling sorry for him or anything...hey, if you're going to swing your stick at a MAN, expect it to come back to you.

I totally hear what you are saying. Let me just add some names here and let me know what you think:

Bryan Marchment
Ville Niemenen
Jodi Shelley
Scott Parker
Scott Nichol

you know what these names have in common?

they beat up on Shark players, and then were acquired to fight/be a pest/instigate for our team. then became fan favorites.

With that: Is the Raffi Torres acquisition really all that out of ordinary?

I dunno man, he doesn't swing his stick hard enough in a spot that shit will happen. I have been playing for 3 years now and that just doesn't look bad to me.

I think he got hurt when he fell awkwardly on the ice. My money is on either his wrist or shoulder.

Aside from the Shelley punch on Stuart, the big thing those guys had in common was that they played hard and gritty against the Sharks, and everyone else. The only one on that list that could even be remotely be considered a shitbox douche the likes of Raffi Torres is, possibly, Bryan Marchment and even he got a bad rap most of the time. There is absolutely no way to defend Raffi Torres. He is in a small club of NHL super douches, the membership list of which includes the likes of Steve Ott and Sean Avery. Comparing Torres to guys like Parker and Nichol is beyond stretching. My only hope is that he fails his physical, or falls in the shower or can't crack the lineup.

It's his shoulder and it happened when he fell.

mother. of. god. Murray :applause

Great CLEAN hit especially in comparison to the elbow Neal took.

Murray shaved off the stubble. Hardly recognize him.

Anyone else notice that the Sharks are a collective -62 as a team right now? And the Ducks are a collective +125?
