The Official 2016/2017 NFL Thread

It's like he can't move on.

well no, when he's prompted to talk about this shit, he can't move on lol

the article even states that Harbaugh tried to dodge the topic at first before caving

Did yall think that Tim Kawakami would ask some other shit interviewing him? :laughing

Yeah, I mean, they DID ask...

Jeeze. Couple links with some light reading. Redskins are putting on a clinic on how to NOT handle dealing with a potential franchise QB contract situation.

Redskins have already botched Kirk Cousins contract

and then:

The Redskins’ problem is that there’s only one team Cousins will sign with right now, according to one source: San Francisco.

If he stays this year, Washington get a 3rd rounder when he bails next season.

Frankly I still think the rumored Cousins + 17 for 2 overall is complete bullshit, and at this point I wouldn't even give up #34 for him. I'd play hardball with Washington and offer a 3rd this year and a conditional pick next year, else fuck off we'll just sign him to a FA deal ourselves.

or just wait another year after Cousins gets franchised again. He'll surely leave then, and for nothing. Plus, the team could build up it's o-line so he may have a chance to survive once he gets in santa clara

oh hey i didn't even realize Gruden hadn't been fired yet in DC. good for him.

new Q - should the Niners go for Alshon?

Matt, I just saw your post from last night. I don't recall the details, but I do know that I had a manual and parts fiche in front of me during the work, so I'm confident that whatever should have been there was there.

Agreed, trading the #2 for #17 and Cousins is not worth it. The 9ers need more out of the #2 than a QB who most likely represents a bridge to the future rather than being the guy who takes us back into contention. We've wasted too many opportunities over the past three years. The new FO needs to make sure that's the first thing they stop doing if they want their legacy to be the guys who rebuilt our franchise.

Kirk Cousins is young enough to be the Niners Superbowl QB in 4 years when the team is not a garbage fire and the 2 years he has been starting in DC, he has played as well as A Rog, Brady, Ryan, the big guys, by the QBR.

If the team were a good QB away from the playoffs I'd agree. There are more holes to fill that will benefit from having the #2 or trading it off for additional picks in later rounds. Giving it up for him is not the best use in my opinion. But I'm guessing you already understand this and would be happy with the dumpster fire going a few more years and consuming the new blood we've brought into the organization. :thumbup

That doesn't mean you overpay to get him.

A #2 pick is ridiculously valuable. Look at last year, Philly traded #77, #100 plus a future #1 and #2 to Cleveland in order to move up from #8.

That's essentially saying that Cousins is worth MORE than that, because Washington have pick #17.

That's a bad deal.

aww, Kaep has announced that he will opt out of his contract with the 9ers and hit free agency.

best of luck to him. I'm sure he'll make a great field goal holder and 3rd string qb for some lucky team.

Just got the alert... Interesting.

Wonder who will want to pick him up

Raiders back up QB. Rams maybe? Seattle? The Jets? He needs to be placed in a very Left Wing City. New Orleans might be a decent fit with Brees aging. His politics make him untouchable in a lot of NFL markets though.

Cousins IS worth more, because he is a proven NFL guy. Philly paid that much for Wentz, who was an unproven Rookie that may have busted. Cousins is a franchise guy without the same risk. Personally, I think the Niners best option is to trade down from #2 to reap a similar grotesque heap of picks in order to build up their awful O-line and shore up the Defense, worry about a QB next year, because they will still probably have a top 10 pick for a potential franchise guy.

You're ignoring 5 years of Wentz vs giving up that much for Cousins and paying him $25M per season.

Regardless, I don't think that's the right move anyway. They need more than just a QB and next year's draft class is potentially up there with the Luck/RG3 caliber guys.
