The Official 2016/2017 NFL Thread

True, but it is fun to see the future being planned, nevertheless.

It's fun seeing the look on these college kid's faces, some of them were bawling! Happy times. Like this local Santa Rosa kid who screamed "Scooby's going to the Dawg Pound!" after being drafted by Cleveland. :party

The Colts seemed to have finally stopped being dumb.....they drafted FOUR offensive lineman to protect QB Andrew Luck. :thumbup

Interesting draft year for Cleveland. They've finally decide to play the long game, and will have a killer pick of the litter next year.

Is it the long game when you tie an NFL record with 14 players drafted in only 7 rounds? Forget about next year, they added 14 new players this year. :laughing

Speaking of the Steelers, the Dolphins just signed an UDFA named Akil Blount at LB....the son of Steelers Hall of Fame DB Mel Blount, who was so damn good the NFL had to create the 'Mel Blount Rule' just to give the receivers a chance (the rule made it illegal for the defender to hand-check the receiver after 5 yards).

Yeah, but I'd still be shocked if the NFL let it happen.

Shouldn't be a surprise.

If you're the NFL you make extended family owners divest part of a team because they have a partial interest in a racetrack 1100 miles away.

Meanwhile, Goodell still has a job, and the Raiders can move to Vegas, making it even easier for their players to get in trouble off the clock.

Honestly, I welcome it: Picture the headlines. It'll make Johnny Football look like a Mormon schoolboy.

Yup, pretty much.

I'm still a little ticked off at the Bengals for blowing that game v Pittsburgh. They were the better team.

When you suck as hard as we do... :laughing

I mean... Look at all of our famous draft picks now!

way too early 53 man roster projection

http://www.ninersnation.com/2016/5/3/11552868/49ers-53-man-roster-projection-2016-nfl-draft

I like the way the offense shakes out and it seems reasonable. I think they only roll with 2 QB's, though, so Driskel to the practice squad, and I still hope Gabbert starts over Kaep. I think Hayne is gonna be a stud in Kelly's system. seems like it's a really good match.

on defense, buh-bye Bethea??! That would be a significant vote of confidence in Ward and McCray as Reid and Tartt are the obvious starters. health on the D-line appears to still be an issue.

from the 'backers, I wonder how much gas Brooks has left in the tank and if Hodges can be consistently avg, or even above avg. as long as he's not a liability...

QB (3): Blaine Gabbert, Colin Kaepernick, Jeff Driskel
RB (4): Carlos Hyde, Mike Davis, Jarryd Hayne, Kelvin Taylor
FB (1): Bruce Miller (playing TE, too)
WR (6): Torrey Smith, Quinton Patton, Bruce Ellington, Eric Rogers, DeAndre Smelter, Aaron Burbridge
TE (3): Vance McDonald, Garrett Celek, Blake Bell
OT (4): Joe Staley, Trenton Brown, Fahn Cooper, John Theus
OG (3): Zane Beadles, Joshua Garnett, Andrew Tiller
C (2): Daniel Kilgore, Marcus Martin

DL (7): Quinton Dial, Arik Armstead, DeForest Buckner, Mike Purcell, Ronald Blair, Glenn Dorsey, Ian Williams
OLB (4): Aaron Lynch, Ahmad Brooks, Eli Harold, Tank Carradine
ILB (4): NaVorro Bowman, Gerald Hodges, Michael Wilhoite, Nick Bellore
CB (5): Tramaine Brock, Dontae Johnson, Will Redmond, Rashard Robinson, Keith Reaser
FS (3): Eric Reid, Jimmie Ward, L.J. McCray
SS (1): Jaquiski Tartt

K (1): Phil Dawson
P (1): Bradley Pinion
LS (1): Kyle Nelson

Last four on: Jarryd Hayne, Aaron Burbridge, Jeff Driskel, Kelvin Taylor
First four off: Antoine Bethea, Tony Jerod-Eddie, Kenneth Acker, DuJuan Harris
Potentially PUP/NFI candidates: Ian Williams, Glenn Dorsey, Will Redmond

Didn't they re-sign Draughn? I think he gets a roster spot, probably over Hayne. Hayne is a nice story but he's 30 and can't hold on to the ball.

they did for a 1 year. but there's a reason he was sitting on his couch in the middle of the season last year....

The Fins drafted a player Jakeem Grant of the Texas Tech Red Raiders (never heard of him before) who is only 5'5" but claims he's really 5'7" once he puts on cleats because "nobody plays barefoot." :laughing

Sounds too small for the NFL. And yet I read up on him and discover he has ran a 4.1 in the 40, hand-timed. WAIT WAT. That can't be real, if so it would be the fastest 40 time in NFL history. Later at the Combine he was pissed that he 'only' ran a 4.3 because to him that's slow (in the real world, 4.3 is lunatic speed). :wow

I look up some youtube vids, I see "Jakeem Grant runs kickoff back for TD vs Baylor. Jakeem Grant runs kickoff back for TD vs Minnesota. Jakeem Grant runs kickoff back for TD vs Sam Houston State. Jakeem Grant runs kickoff back for TD vs Oklahoma State." He gets a clear space and poof, he's gone. So quick.

This kid looks like a faster version of Darren Sproles, a true TD threat on kickoffs and punt returns. Me likey.

Oh yeah he can catch too. :p

One of the "Bold Predictions" on ESPN this morning, the 49ers will have the number one pick in next year's draft.
