The Official 2017/2018 NFL Thread

Hmmm... never heard of them. Apparently, neither has Eli judging by the 33 receiving yards in the first half. :laughing

Maybe they'll be introduced in time for the second half. :dunno

Doing better, but I have had a feeling for a little while now that The Cowgirls were going to have some revenge on us for last year, and that was before Odell was out, LOL.

Yeah, they're sustaining their drives so at least the defense is getting a bit of a rest.

Honestly, I feel like our Offensive calls have gone to shit since Mean Grandpa left. The Offensive talent on this team should be putting up some wacky Matt Ryan numbers, even with a weak running game, but they just are making the play calls to use the talent.

Eli, Brady, Palmer... Tick! Tock! Tick! Tock!

:afm199

It is true, but Honestly I feel like it is more of a coaching problem in NY.

Shane Vereen is sick as a catching RB. Even Engram is a monster catching Tight End. Marshall is a big old beast across the middle. Shep can stretch the field in the slot and Odell is master of the circus catch like anywhere. The Defense held their own today, the Offense utterly failed again, despite being upgraded a lot from last year. This reeks to me of a coach who is more interested in running the scheme he likes rather than running a scheme that suits his talent.

The should be running a fast and short West Coast offense, because Eli does not have the big arm he had 4 years ago and the talent is there. They just aren't executing the kind of system he ran in Green Bay.

I didn't see Marshall get separation once. And the O line has a few massive holes in it just like the 9ers. I agree the play calling is pure vanilla. Total lack of creativity and sticking to the script just like you said.

Just read a bit where one author says the 9ers Oline is the cause of their poor performance. And another that says Shanahan didn't coach and game plan well enough. I have to disagree a bit. Yes, the group isn't like a NE Oline. I'd say that a lack of production from the skill positions, particularly wide outs, is really the problem. As a defense why worry about the back end if there isn't anyone on the offense who threatens to stretch the field? It's more stack the box and smother everything underneath and midrange to the TE, slot, and RB. The one good thing I did see was creative play calling. The opportunities were there and exploited through the correct plays called. The players, wideouts, just didn't finish the job. If this team can start connecting more down the field games will be more exciting and close.

Well, the OLine was horrible.

Zane Beadles is trash.

He needs to change his name to Sieve. There were opportunities though and as poorly as he played he isn't responsible for catching the ball when it lands in his bread basket.

The point I'm trying to hit is that as bad as Beadles is defenses wouldn't be able to exploit it as much if they had to concern themselves with protecting farther down the field.

Its just really easy to say "the 9ers suck" again and use the same old, tired arguments except when it comes to coaching. I thought the game plan on both sides of the ball was up to the task. Even the game time adjustments kept resulting in opportunities. The failure was in the final bit of execution, namely catching the ball when it hits the receiver in the hands, moreso than anything else.

The Raiders O-line played pretty well but not great. The defense started slow, giving up many 3rd down conversions. The biggest difference was that they tackled much better than last year. The D-line started getting pressure in the 2nd half and that made Mariotta a little more inaccurate. 2nd year safety Karl Joseph came up big a few times and made his tackles. The mediocre defensive performance was all it took.

What the hell is up with Cooper? He had a case of the dropsies yesterday.

I was kinda unhappy with a couple of drops that Crabs had in the first half ("C'mon man, you left that sh** in SF!", I heard.), but it started to come together in the second half.

Jets next week... gotta feel bad for Todd Bowles, they gave him nothing and he'll end up paying the price for team management tanking it for a high pick.

Speaking of college players, how high has Baker Mayfield's stock risen after the big win on Saturday?

Cooper pretty regularly drops passes. He makes some amazing catches too, but the drops are what keep him from being elite.

Coop has had better days. I personally blame the playcalling on the goal line. did they learn nothing from seattle?? run the fucking ball at least once with Beast. give him one shot, then mix it up. Hell with that o-line, do a QB push 3X for an almost guaranteed TD. I didn't get that.

Was thinking the same thing. Better to learn from the mistake in the first game of the season than in the last.

yeah, especially in a win. however, I would assume that if the last OC got fired for not running the ball more/curious playcalling, and you're on the 2 yard line with Beast ready to go... you give it a try at least once. it was a bit of a head-scratcher that makes me think there may be a disconnect with the OC and the overall strategy of the team in its entirety.

Did Carr change it at the line? (IIRC one play was with an empty backfield?)
