The Official 2017/2018 NFL Thread

You have to be honest about it though. Smith has wiped a good deal of victory deodorant over the crappy years he spent in SF from 2005 to 2010. All of it has come after he resurrected his career there as well. KC took a gamble on him when they did. No one was sure if he was going to be able to replicate the success he had under Harbs with a different coach.

Because the team is better than the shit SF teams were. That absolutely changes perception of QBs.

This year aside, he hasn't been significantly better in KC than he was his last 2 years in SF.

This season he's seriously playing close to an MVP level. I'm happy for him.

My point exactly. In a decent system he is a decent QB a team can rely upon to put up more W than L. I don't know if that's the case with Kap. I don't think he throws the ball as well.

Here's a fun one for you.

Kaepernick (88.9) has a higher career QB Rating than Smith (87.1) and that includes Smith being out of his fucking mind so far this year.

So yeah, a one point difference for a guy who is stacked like 12 YEARS of stats against a guy who played 2 years and then washed out. Give me a fucking break. I mean, if you take the last 6 years of Smith's career, his QB rating is 94 or some shit.

His first three years in SF were a train wreck because he was on a garbage team with a garbage coach. Once they finally put a team together to play around him (and the Niners of recent success were a DEFENSE TEAM, not Offense), he put up numbers that bury Kaep. You figure his full blown career as a legit starter coming up within one point of that 2 year hack who rode a gimmick offense on a team already primed for the playooffs, the numbers just don't lie about who the better ball slinger was if you look at the big picture.

Shit, even Jeff Hostetler won some playoff games by being in the right place at the right time.

He put up decent numbers last year on a dumpster fire of a team.

I'll just be here to point out that SF Smith didn't make it to the SB and Kaep did.

KC Smith is a completely different player.

SF Smith was having an amazing year and wasn't afforded the opportunity to make it to the SB

to be fair, Smith was the highest rated passer in the NFL when he went down with injury and subsequently replaced permanently by Kaep. we'll never know, but to be sure that Smith wouldn't have gotten them to the superbowl or won it, isn't quite set in stone.

this. Smith may have had a harder time against GB and wouldn't have had all the running fireworks Kap did.

But arguably the SB wouldn't have been an abomination of a first 3 quarters that Kap put up.

That Niner Defense has to be one of the better ones in NFL history. they didn't need Kap to fuck them over with shitty possession after shitty possession. they needed Smith to be their Trent Dilfer.

Part of the problem with that offense was GRoman. The most lackluster, vanilla game planning, scheming, and play calling ever!

Who Harbaugh refused to let go of, along with most of the other coaching staff that was the highest paid in the league.

Here's where the SF narratives start to collide :laughing

Harbaugh was elite! Best coach in the NFL!!!! SO stupid to get rid of him!

---BUT---

Kaepernick is horrible!!!! Gimmick offense!! OMG Alex Smith was teh best!

Harbaugh picked Kaepernick over Smith. Harbaugh was supposedly the QB GURU, and he wanted Kaepernick. They traded up in the draft to get him.

Roman's offense was both needlessly complicated AND vanilla as fuck. Smith's "amazing" year he was having? He averaged 175 yards per game passing and had 13 TDs to 5 INTs. Kaepernick averaged less yards per game, ran for a shit ton more, and had 10 TDs to 3 INTs. That's nowhere close to Smith's numbers "burying" Kaep.

Long story short: Harbaugh's offenses were crap, and as soon as the defense started to falter, so did the team. He is a PERFECT college coach though.

If he loses to Penn State they turn up the heat on him, if he doesn't beat Michigan in The Big House this year, the love affair may just come to an end.

I was more referring to his grating personality and the fact that he can churn through college players every couple years.

The Michigan State game was awesome. Almost as good as two years ago when State won on the punt fumble recovery TD.

Roman’s offense wasn’t complex. The verbiage was. You had to read off an entire paragraph to get a single play in. Kap was not Harbs guy. He was Baalkes and Yorks.

Harbaugh got treated worse than a Sandusky kid...

The Catholics pounded the Condoms, too.

Currently watching Cal go into OT against AZ. (EDIT: Lost in 2 OTs)

Tough night of sports watching, 3 college football games, the Warriors, Game 7 of the ALCS, flipping back and forth, with a splash of MotoGP. I'm exhausted, my thumb hurts, but I'd like to thank the team, my parents, Jesus... I'M GOIN' TO DISNEYWORLD!

Worst game of the season so far. Crazy to think my 9ers could be 5-2 at this point and that we would drop a game so horribly like today. Just sucked all around.
